SSNJim Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I don't care for the ribs. IMO, it looks more like a speedboat than a car in the picture above. I vote no on the ribs; it looks much more clean and sleek without them. Love the car.
GTMust Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 (edited) For what it's worth..... how about giving the rear "deck" and the ribs a high gloss, mahogany, varnished finish? Kinda like the wood bodied cars of the thirties........ or maybe that would really make it look like a speedboat/amphicar. Just a thought...... perhaps not a very good one? warra48 Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Great work, lovely scratchbuilding. I like it, a lot. Looking at the model, to me it is somewhat reminiscent of an early 1960s Thunderbird, and also of a period speedboat, but with a character all its own.
Hypermung Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 KennB What's that 'thing' in front of where the windscreen should be?.... A bow rail?
Dr. Cranky Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 It could also double as a beautiful speed boat.
kennb Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 That thing on the hood is the grill for this "thing".It has the bumper built into the bottom of it. This will be chromed. There is very little chrome on this car, the grill/bumper, the rear grill and tail lights, a strip alont the top edge of the front pop ups, and the belt line strip. KennB
Greg Pugh Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I agree, it's kinda starting to look like a boat.
kennb Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 The ribs give it too much of a boat look. I think I am going with plain fins ont he back. Now off to finish the paint and interior painting. KennB
b_lever1 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 personal i like the boat look but thats my other pastime it looks awsome
kennb Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 I totally sanded things down and rehilled some parts o the body. There were some pinholes and other troublesome areas. I used the new squadron filler. so far it is working nice. I am ready for final snding and paint on this one now. KennB
kennb Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 I have not done a lot on this one but I did finally settle on the hub caps and have them made up. Now I can finish the wheels and frame, Since it is a curbside it will be very simple. KennB
kennb Posted November 26, 2011 Author Posted November 26, 2011 Finally got some wheels for this thing. Now that it is on rubber. I dont like the windshield and thinking I should try another attack on it. wonder what a bubble top would look like on it. I do need to cut it down to about half of what it is. It looks way too out of proportion to the rest of the car. KennB
darquewanderer Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 I vote for bubble top. Me too. The styling just screams bubble top.
David G. Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Excellent work! It kind of looks amphibious. David G.
patami Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Boat like really low windscreen or why not a bubble top
musclewrx Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 what did you use to mold on the body work?
Eshaver Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 How about a Gull Wing top instead ? Ed Shaver
misterNNL Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I agree that the windshield is too tall.It draws the eye up and away from an otherwise very sleek body shape. Please share the vintage travel trailer I see in the background with us at some point. That is very cool as well.
