Gregg Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I got the new 2010 1/25 scale Ford Shelby GT500 the other day. Nice kit, looks like a mini-me of the 1/12 one on the table. Don't like the box art Think they could do something better, with all that talent we have out here...
Dr. Cranky Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 It looks like a wonderful kit, and I am sure we will see lots of great versions on that tables and in the forum.
whale392 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Thanks for your wonderful insight into this kit, Virgil. Gregg, the breakdown-by-sprue pics are a good reference for what to expect in the box, as Revell has it packed pretty tight in there. I got to see the Box Art car (as well as the production box top) at the Toledo NNL, and the car on the table was the one shot for the box top art. It was well done, the box top gives it no credit and does it no justice. For those familiar with the 2010GT kit, it is based from that and will have the same issues with tires/wheels/wheel houses as the GT. These kits are even harder to lower in the front than the 2005-2009 versions, the back is roughly the same. Overall, the kit is a nice piece of work from Revell (same as their 2010GT), and will build up nice. One suggestion is to trim the wheels of their tire locating lugs/ridge and use the Pegasus Hobbies 225/45-18 or 245/45-18 tires on these rims. They greatly reduce un-needed sidewall height and lend a better scale look to the wheel-tire package. Of note (at least to me anyway) is the fact that the hood air extractor is cast separately from the hood. Nice touch Revell, and just because of that I have purchased multiple copies of this kit!
Chuck Most Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I'm on the fence about the box art- the 'up on a ladder' view is at least something different. It does seem to obsucure the tire/ride height issues... maybe that's why they did it? Still not the most flattering image though. The wheels look a LOT more realistic than the soft, blob-ish things in the '07 kit. Still haven't finished my '10 GT, but so far I have had no issues with it- so I'm expecting the same from this kit. REALLY glad Revell has ended its love affair with molding the grille surfaces to the front facia (Dodge Magnum, Ford Lightning, etc.), so no tedious masking required for the grille. That was one of my favorite features on the '07 GT 500 (along with the hood vents), glad to see the feature made it to the '10 Shelby kit as well. I don't build too many late-model car kits, but I'll be getting more than a few of these.
Chuck Most Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I'm going by memory here, but I think I used the AMT '05 300C tires on one of my '05 builds. The Supra tires are the ideal choice though.
martinfan5 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I just got this kit a couple of days ago, but I think I am going to use aftermarket tires and wheels on it
Rick Schmidt Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Chuck ya are right the 300 tires do fit the 05 Kits they also fit the 10 GTs. I dunno bout the GT500 yet aint got me one of those
horsepower Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I got a real good deal on the Maisto Solstices, & Saturn issues of it at Wally world when they were switching over to the Motorworks label, $4 bucks each, also got a few of the Lexus & Audi sedans for the same deal, the tires off the little Pontiacs & Saturns work very well on the Mustangs, these are still at Walmart, just under their Motorworks label now & the price is back up around $12 each.

I dunno bout the GT500 yet aint got me one of those The tires from the Revell Acura RSX will fit as well, once the 'rib' is filed off the wheel, but the sidewall looks to be waaaaaaay too short.
Gregg Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 Thanks for the input on the tires. I will try to find a set of the 300C tires and see. I have some of the Aoshima new 22", yes, 22", and they look good up in the wheel wells. Don't care too much for the rim-style, just the size, and narrower tires as well. That was the problem with Aoshima's 18-20" rims/tires, they were a little too wide for most cars.
Chuck Most Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 A wide tire would be a problem on this kit, since it is based on the '10 GT and that kit has some skinny little wheel wells. So did the '05 GT and its variants, now that I think of it. I have a bunch of nice tires that would look fantastic on this kit, and have about the right sidewall height, but I can't use any of them because they're too wide.
martinfan5 Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Gregg- I built my 2010 GT using the 300C wheels http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=49899&hl=%2B2010+%2Bmustang&fromsearch=1
Johnny1973 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I pick up the 1/25 Scale Gt500 a few weeks ago myself.I thinking Grabble Blue.
Nate Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) Any word on when, if at all, Revell will be tooling up a new Coyote 5.0 for these Mustangs? Edited December 22, 2011 by Nate
horsepower Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the pics, but could you focus in a little closer on the intake tube & air filter for the cold air intake? I couldn't quite make out the part numbers on the tree....LOL Edited December 22, 2011 by horsepower
whale392 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) I don't think (now, take this as it is: my speculation and nothing more) that we will see a Coyote tooled until Revell has exhausted all of the possibilities for the 4.6L/5.4L drive train. I can see some re-tooling to (maybe) create the 2013 GT500, a 2010 GT Convertible full-detail and a 2010 GT500 Convertible full detail (by combining their snap-tite basic body with their various glue offerings). Once the tooling reach for the Modular is exhausted, then we might see (note I said MIGHT) some Coyote versions based on retooling existing chassis/sheetmetal with the new engine. Give Revell some time and see what they/Ford will come up with/allow (seeing as the Coyote is Fords new/future engine platform). Edited December 23, 2011 by whale392
Chuck Most Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I would have to concur. Even if it takes a while, I'd be willing to bet money Revell will kit a 'Stang with the Coyote mill, it will only be a question of when. Given Revell's track record of kitting almost every '05-up Mustang variant (V6 versions aside), I'd say it's a sure thing.
Gregg Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 You know this motor is not the same as the 2010 Mustang GT kit don't you? Completely different. If need super close up pics or comparison tree shots, let me know. This was bugging me for a few days. Thought I read this somewhere here.
