Greg Myers Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Didn't want to hijack Ricks post below on the "70's Show [love that Donna]) but got to thinking, how many other shows / movies have you seen model building in ? Two and ahalf Men comes to mind ( gotta love Rose and her crazy glue ).Seeing a model on the shelf counts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2YtVZ-btVU
Junkman Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 There is an episode of Rockford's Files, where one of the baddies builds an AMT '68 Shelby Mustang while they hide out in a motel room.
Guest Johnny Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 My Three Sons. (Chip got an airplane kit in the mail) The Waltons (Jim Bob was always working on wooden planes) Leave It To Beaver Andy Griffith The Brady Bunch
Scale-Master Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 The Simpson's. An episode shown last Sunday there was clearly a Monogram Red Baron kit on the shelf of the hobby shop. Joan of Arcadia. The brother built airplane models in just about, if not every, episode.
John Pol Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Home Improvment show had model cars ontop the fireplace and on the coffee table. John Pol
moparmagiclives Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 The one that sticks in my head, is "The Butterfly Effect" Great movie, but the kid building models up stairs was up there because he went nuts and couldnt function at much else....kinda bummed me out , I thought it made the hobbie look a little... umm, phsycotic i guess. Maybe I'm just to sensitive about it.
von Zipper Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 In the 1953 movie "Niagara" starring Marilyn Monroe-her husband was building a few different brass radiator era modal cars.
roadhawg Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 In the '90s movie "Mr. Destiny", Jim Belushi's character is a model car builder, and it sorta plays into the storyline. 1
sjordan2 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 "Free Willy." The kid's dad had model cars on the shelves and desk in the office of his shop.
Mooneyzs Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) "40 days and 40 nights" don't remember the exact model that was build but it was a car and believe it was from Tamiya Edited December 7, 2011 by Mooneyzs
jjsipes Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) Tommy Boy. One of the clients that Tommy was trying to sign had some diecast cars on his desk and Tommy winds up crashing and burning it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-3Oehs6rzQ Edited December 7, 2011 by jjsipes 1
torinobradley Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 There was a Rodney Dangerfield movie (Easy Money) that had him trying to build a 1/25th Messershmidt(?) with some comment about Foch... In the game Fallout, there are Nuke Cola trucks and little blue 50's Indy type cars you can collect as well as a real nice static model in the Tenpenny Towers penthouse (can't get that one though).
Junkman Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) - In the movie Diva (by Jean-Jacques Beineix) the main protagonist's best friend is seen building a model airplane, and there are literally hundreds of built ones in his room. They occupy every level surface and lots and lots of them are dangling from the ceiling. - Need I mention Gerry Anderson? There are so many kit-based model cars in his movies, that there is a base model kit spotters site out there somewhere. - There are loads of model cars in the old Godzilla (and most other Japanese SciFi Monster) flicks. - In Steve McQueen's last movie 'The Hunter', Ralph "Papa" Thorson, who is played by McQueen, is a collector of vintage toys, some cars among them. brad4321 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I saw a Tamiya box in the background in Jerry's closet during a Seinfeld episode. And I saw butters building a model car during a South Park episode.
Nick Winter Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) There is an episode of Rockford's Files, where one of the baddies builds an AMT '68 Shelby Mustang while they hide out in a motel room. Similar scene in Episode 15 first season of Starsky & Hutch called "Shoot Out", bad guy build what appears to be a 70's AMC product. Forgot about the recent Nissian Commercials with the guy building a Datsun 240 it looks like. Nick Edited December 7, 2011 by Nick Winter
Junkman Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Both H. B. Halicki movies prominently show many model cars from his collection.
Junkman Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I saw a Tamiya box in the background in Jerry's closet during a Seinfeld episode. And I saw butters building a model car during a South Park episode. Could well have been one of his own. Jerry Seinfeld is a car modeller.
Kustom Rodder Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 There was a 1960s walt disney movie can not remember the name of it but towards the end of the movie they were showing someones collection some really neat stuff.
brad4321 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Could well have been one of his own. Jerry Seinfeld is a car modeller. It was tough to see much detail but the car looked red. My first thought was thus Ferrari, but everything in that apartment is Porsche.
Aaronw Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 In the Clint Eastwood movie In the Line of fire, the badguy (John Malkovich) is shown buying model supplies to build a small resin pistol he intends to use to assassinate the president. There is an episode of Burn Notice where Micheal's mom finds a box of his old model airplanes. Robin Williams and Billy Crystal supposedly play Warhammer. Unless they just buy all the figures and such built there is alot of model building involved.
Junkman Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Robin Williams and Billy Crystal supposedly play Warhammer. Unless they just buy all the figures and such built there is alot of model building involved. I can vouch for the modelling bit. My nephew is big into Warhammer and often buys sets with dozens of figures in them. All need to be painstakingly assembled and painted. No mean feat given how small they are. This also reminds me of the movie "Ronin", where the character played by Michael Lonsdale (I think Jean-Pierre) builds a what appears to be 00 scale diorama with an army of Samurai warriors.
Guest Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Close Encounters of the Third Kind. There is a model of the Enterprise and a Klingon ship hanging in Richard Dreyfuss's character's house.
ranma Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Colirer and co. dukes of hazzard genral lee bj and the bear bj's truck and trailer on his desk and the movie Stripes aim and fire tank models top gun as well.
Chuck Most Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 There was a model airplane in last year's Christmas episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In the episode, Charlie Kelly was looking back on his dysfuncional childhood and some of the gifts he'd recieved. Present-day Charlie narrarated "I didn't know what some of the stuff was, but I always had fun with it", as young Charlie removed the tube of glue from the box and tossed the rest aside.
Mike Kucaba Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 The movie "GODZILLA" I'm sure those were models of cars, buses, and trains the Big guy was stomping on.
