SteveG Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I've decided to jump in on a NCAM club build using Revell's Hemi Dart. This is going to be a quicky as it's due in less than two weeks. Here's my inspiration, I'm going for the overall look but not an exact match. I'm going to try to make this color some how. Here's a quick mock up photo. The front tires are from the AMT Pro-street Coronet, the front wheels are from Lindberg's LRW Dodge A100. I still need to find a similar but deeper rear wheel. The rear slicks are from the parts box which have thinner sidewalls to fit the slightly opened up rear wheel wells. Suggestions are welcome ..... more to come.... -Steve
Dr. Cranky Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 It looks to me like you've got all the right inspiration on the 1:1, although the graphics are mild, but it's going to be a nice build. Go for it.
b_lever1 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 looks great if you have some more of the rims you have on the just widen then i've it with stock mopar ralley look good
Mike Kucaba Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Hi Steve.Check out Accura Deep Violet pearl.Looks very close.
Kris Morgan Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Love the color here. Hope you have luck matching it. I will give myself a "drop" here and, let you know I offer the deep rear Y-Thrust wheels. www.madmodeling.com . Good luck with your build.
SteveG Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 I think I got the color pretty close, I made it mixing some HOK pearls with some black applied over a black primer base. The full effect of the pearls won't show until its clear coated. I'm going to let it dry a few days and foil the trim first before the clear. Stiil lots of work to do if I'm going to get it done in time .... -Steve
george 53 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Looks real nice now, It'll be REALLY nice when you trim it out! Lookin REAL good, bro!
SteveG Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 I finally managed to get the foil trim done and apply some PPG lacquer clear cloat. It's about half way polished out so far .... The actual color looks more Purple then this photo shows. Anyway, it's a close enough match for me ....
Rob McKee Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 That paint just looks fantastic Steve. I love this car as well. Sounds funny, but my Aunt had one of these. Why she bought a car with this kind of power nobody could figure out. Everytime we would hear tires squealing my brother and I would joke, "here comes Aunt Agnes". I'll have to buildone of these in her honor one of these days. Looking forward to see how thise comes out.
Bartster Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 The MPC turd '69 Daytona Charger has decent rear wheels that are very close!
SteveG Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 Here's another view showing the paint better ....
Kustom Rodder Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Lookin really good so far steve. I will have to agree with bartster that the wheels that come in that mpc kit maybe the ticket for your dart.
Kit Basher Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Looks great! The wheels in the Revell '32 Ford 5 window are close.
baloney Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) Hello to all, newbie here!! i think your dart will look fantastic! i love it. like the paint and the stance. looking forward to your progress along the way. Edited January 8, 2012 by baloney
n8dogginz Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 I think the paint you were looking for is black sapphire metallic, im embarrassed to say but my daily is a '92 lumina in the exact color of the 1:1 you showed. But your paint looks fantastic anyway! Keep it coming!
SteveG Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 One of the choices I struggled over is either going with the 4 speed like the kit provides with the Hemi Motor or swapping to the automatic like the car that inspired this build. It has a Hurst Pro-matic shifter which has never been kitted as far as I know. I finally convinced myself I could make one. Here's the results so far. Starting with sections of the stock console, I cut it down and added some bits of evergreen until I came up with this. The housing and the upper plate are separate pieces. Now all I need to do is find a correct looking flat style Hurst shift lever to finish it off along with some paint and foil. more to come ..... -Steve
SteveG Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 (edited) Here's the finished Hurst Pro-matic shifter. I ended up flattening a stainless steel paper clip then sanding and polishing it to shape to make the shift lever. I topped it off with a parts box shift knob and used the kit decal for the gear selector. I think I got it pretty close to the 1:1 part. My next debate is if I should add the fire extinguisher or not. I doubt I would ever place it like that where the owner has his in my own car. I might place it behind the shifter or just leave it out all together. In the mean time I'm going to finish up the dash, steering wheel and column ...... Steve Edited February 26, 2012 by SteveG
Kustom Rodder Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Very nice work on scratch building the shifter the build is really comin along very nicely.Hopefully youll have it done for the buckeye classic.
SteveG Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 Here's the finished interior, I decided to place the fire extinguisher behing the shifter. I'm moving on to installing the glass and upper interior trim next .....
SteveG Posted April 27, 2012 Author Posted April 27, 2012 (edited) Sorry it's been so long for an update ...... Here's the latest photos of it. I'll start with the painted chassis ..... Here's the engine ready to drop in ..... the intake manifold was modified so the carbs would sit flush. I also used the Automatic trans from the 440 engine. The distributor cab is a resin piece from R&M. Here's the engine installed ...... ....... and the finished chassis Ready for final assembly ...... Thanks for looking ..... -Steve Edited April 27, 2012 by SteveG
