Hartness28 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I am wanting to build a moonshine runner out of the '41 Plymouth by amt. Has anyone ever done anything like this before? Any suggestions on the build are appreciated. I am also having trouble finding out what engine would be appropriate. I want it like it was built in the early 50's. I'm thinking a big caddy engine!untitled.bmp
bandit1 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 as a hillbilly myself.....find heavy duty truck springs for the rear and a caddie over head engine is perfect!....thats how NASCAR started! just ask Junior Johnson!
Jon Cole Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Tommy Kortman built a '40 Ford 'runner, use for inspiration:
bandit1 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 also one other thing... paint it a dark color...for the reason is they ran loads mainly at night time !
Hartness28 Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 I was thinking semi-flat black. How heavy duty of a truck for the rear springs? I love the 40 ford, but i'm kind of a chrysler guy!
diymirage Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 i would go with a 392 firedome engine just to stay in the mopar family and well, its a great looking engine
Agent G Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 i would go with a 392 firedome engine just to stay in the mopar family and well, its a great looking engine Ditto, a 50's era build demands a Hemi! G

Eshaver Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Ian, I come from a family of "Runners ". Shoot , Cadillacs in 50 Studebakers , Chryslers in Fords , etc . I knew a feller here in town that had a 40 model Plymouth that ran a Oldsmobile in his . I would run down folks in a city called Franklin Virginia as that is still, the "Moonshine capital of the World ". Just remember to Beef the suspension , add a Oil tank to spread poil over the road , and have a "dump " valve for spilling the load in an emergency ! Ed Shaver
route66modeler Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 HI, Just watched the "moon shine" tv show on cable. Didn't know how big making white lighting is today. Gov't is still on the hunt for the stills. Its all about the tax $. Steve
