nboldman Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Alright guys im just intrested in hearing some stories from the older modelers and younger modelers such as myself. the reason i got into modeling is because i was on youtube and looked up a var and happrned to come across a video from fastjimmy71 and said to myself, man thats cool and decided to go to the lhs and buy a model. ive been doing it for a year now and i built box stock for 2 months and decided this is boring i want something more challenging, so i bought some sheet plastic and some tubing and lowered a gmc syclone to the ground and ever since ive only built one more box stock build. thats my story. now im currently 15 and you can see some of my work under the "whats on your bench" section. so lets here your storys!

Kodiak Island Modeler Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Because I can enter into my own little world, and forget about the forces of dayly living, also because my wife keeps pushing me to build. Why do people paint, knit, or weave? It's art. It's my form of creating in miniature that which I like in full scale. I've been doing it for over 50 years, and plan to do so until I die.
Rob McKee Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 The main reason I build model cars is it gives me the ability to own every car I have ever wanted. Just 24 - 25 times smaller.
disabled modeler Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I started building with my dad around 6 or 7 years old and am now 47 have been building ever since....I became disabled in June of 96 in a bad car accident so building is more important to me than ever...helps pass the time and I have always enjoyed it. I guess its kind of retroactive now...I have my dads old collection I am trying to restore.

RodneyBad Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Why do people ask this question? Are they trying to find out why they do?? I build because I do.. Don't know why, I just do.. Because they are there. Because it is safer (for others) than my other choices.

Because it is safer (for others) than my other choices. the reason i asked was because i just wantedd to know why you chose this part of the hobby rather than anything else. i already know why i got into it, for the love of the cars that i cant afford to build in 1:1 Edited December 29, 2011 by nboldman

jas1957 Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Been building for 40 plus years & I don't know how to do anything else. As everyone else here I'm a car nut, & find great satisfaction in a model well built.
Kris Morgan Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Because the voices tell me to. I do whatever the voices say.
moparmagiclives Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Because I will never have a 427 cobra or hemi charger in my garage..... so I keep them upstairs.
scalenut Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 keeps my blood pressure down , relaxing, I enjoy the outcome, the sense of accomplishment...well as Martha says.."it's a good thing"
wgflatliner Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Let's see. I build models as a social thing. Sure building models also lowers stress levels as well, but nothing is as fun as building with other people.
