tjones87 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Going to be taking off in a different direction than most builds i do. I will be using this kit as a break from the 59 caddy...I plan on building it pretty much as a stock Eclipse, well as stock as possible considering the molded on body kit and roof scoop. i will be filling in the holes for the obnoxious metal spoiler it shows on the box...i had a friend with an Eclipse who had taken the rear spoiler off and loved the lok of it...so plan on going that way... Will get the holes filled and then start on the engine assembly...will update asap .
Skydime Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) I think FWD tuners always look better with less graphics and no wing. Though I do like the body kits and wheels they use in most cases. Will keep tuned in on this one. I had this car a few years back and was going to build it in a similar fashion. But it disappeared from my home with a few other kits that were pretty much new in the boxes. Edited January 12, 2012 by Skydime
tjones87 Posted January 12, 2012 Author Posted January 12, 2012 Yeah I have always like the look of tuners, if it isnt too far out there. A clean set of wheels and a decent body kit look good on almost any import. I would like to put a spoiler on this car, but can't find anything that seems to fit it, without giving it the ricer look. Still debating on what color to go with this build. I have the wheels soaking to get the chrome plating off, as I am not a chrome fan, even on tuners lol...will see what happens later on....thanks
tjones87 Posted January 12, 2012 Author Posted January 12, 2012 ended up going straight into the engine and got it knocked out...the instructions call for everything to be black...but I decided to add some zing under the hood. This engine is not one I have seen personally( my friends turbo eclipse has the header up front)..but I am not really into the tuner scene so maybe someone can chime in on that. I also got the disc brakes out and painted them up...as soon as the wheels get out of the Purple Power I am goign to paint them and get the rim/tire setup complete. I am working on the interior now...trimming excess flash off parts and deciding a 2 tone design. I also trimmed off the gauges that were on the dash inplace of the airbag...will look like a regualr street car interior.
Devilsnake98 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 yeah just fyi, the engine is modeled after the non turbo 2.0L engine, but is far from it. thats why the valve cover has the cutouts in it. supposedly for the spark plugs, but the kit is missing half of it. also as you stated the exhaust should come out the front of the engine, and it should on non and turbo engines, making that turbo that comes in the kit actually work. here is a pic of a non turbo engine and what it should be.
tjones87 Posted January 12, 2012 Author Posted January 12, 2012 Thats what i was thinking it should look like lol...it has been awhile since I've seen under the hood of an eclipse...I guess thats why the kit calls for everything black, so you cant really see that its not anywere close to 1:1 lol I got half the paint job done...now to fill up the airbrush and get it finished...then hoping to clear asap...still got a littl emore painting to do on interior and chassis. Will have more pics up as soon as paint is done...thanks
wraith Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 That motor is actually a Chrysler motor (NEON) and not a Mitsubishi motor. It was never turboed from the manufacturer. The only difference between that motor being in a Neon and a Eclipse is the the flow of the head is reversed. On a neon, which is what Chrysler developed that motor for, the intake is up front and the exhaust is in the back of the head. that header/exhaust manifold on the kit motor looks a lot like the header I have on my Dodge Neon. the indentions in the valve cover are for the spark plugs. The kit has decent detail but would have been better if AMT could have cast the valve cover seperate from the head. or at least cast the intake manny seperate. With some work, this "NEON" motor could really be detailed to look like a 1:1 motor For the Eclipse the intake and exhaust manifolds were reversed.Bothe were rated at 150hp and 150 trq, but the neon was/is faster! TRUST ME, I KNOW!!! The AMT kit is correct in having that motor in the kit as apposed the the Revell kit. The movie car had the "neon" motor and was FWD as again the Revell kit is wrong with the AWD setup. In real life, this motor is very easy to work on, makes good power with bolt-ons, especially turbo and can produce ample power to humilulate V8's/Muscle cars!!!!!
tjones87 Posted January 12, 2012 Author Posted January 12, 2012 thanks for the info...i used to knwo a little about these engines...but been a few years since I messed with one....as far as the build going well...not so great now...painted the second color on the body (forgot to paint hood the first time to match the top of car) so was going to tear my airbrush down and clean and then go back and finish the hood...well the dang nozzle snapped off in the tip of the airbrush...so now I got to order another one...for the second time in the last 3 months...will do what i can until a new one comes in....this hasnt been my week for modeling...will update asap
hotrod59f100 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I hav one of theese on deck soon .ill be keeping an eye out for this.
tjones87 Posted January 12, 2012 Author Posted January 12, 2012 Well got the wheels.tires assembled and most of the body painted...got to get a new airbrush on the way....here are a few pics to hold everyone over until i can continue...calling it a day on this and goign to bed...stayed up al night working on this one...thanks may end up stripping paint and going with a solid color (other than red...my createx is being a PITA)
tjones87 Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 been working on the interior for a few hours..detailing, but not too extensive. I am still unsure if I want to keep the paint like it is or maybe go solid white...depends on how long it takes to get a new airbrush i guess...will update with pics in a little bit. thanks for checking it out guys...
Skydime Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Coming along nicely! I think that a Metallic gunmetal on top with that red or just a little darker red would look great.
tjones87 Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 got the interior painted and assembled...even the window cranks...dont think I have ever whent this detailed on a build...but plan to go all out on my next one..heres a few pics... think I am going to leave the paint like it is..touch a few spots up and clear the body as soon as the weather permits. Then once my airbrush comes in I will paint and clear the hood... still thinking of adding a spoiler, but cant find anythign in my parts box that looks good...any ideas on were I could find some? thanks guys
Skydime Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 (edited) Everything is looking good. For a spoiler, maybe you could find a small one off of an old muscle car and just narrow it to fit the Eclipse. One suggestion though, if you don't mind. I think it would be more consistant if you brought the black up into the top half of the inserts in the rear seats to match the front. Edited January 13, 2012 by Skydime

I have been trying to locate a few spoilers..but not having any luck..out of all the parts I recently got theres nothign decent lol...and I was thinking the back seat needed more black...will have to just make a line to stop at..will mess around with it some more... the only thing I have encountered with a spoiler is the rear of the eclipse is curved..and needs soemthign to flow with the curve...thanks again
Skydime Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I'll dig through my parts box tomorrow. If I find anything curved around the back, I'll let ya know and you can have it.
tjones87 Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 got some chassis work done last night...had to charge batteries in camera so just now getting pics...i also extended the black up on the back seat.. didnt get any clear sprayed today, hoping its a little warmer tomrrow. more updates soon...
tjones87 Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 Well finally got a new airbrush, so I dug the eclipse hood out and got a coat of color on it...will try and get clear on the body and hood this weekend sometime..and hopefully wrap this build up..and move on to finishing the 59 caddy...thanks
tjones87 Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 (edited) got the hood painted finally...also blacked out the rear and quarter glass, and also the headlight housings. hoping to clear everything soon and get this one finished...thanks Edited January 27, 2012 by tjones87
tjones87 Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 this hasnt been a bad kit at anytime...seems to flow together real nice...only thing I didnt like was the one spoiler choice and the molded in roof scoop, but i think it turned out good and looks decent...i would have liked to had the revelle kit, but i got this one in a trade and have wanted to build an eclipse for a few years now...
