Dirkpitt289
I was looking up car movies last night and my search led me to a 1977 thriller/horror film called The Car. The film stars James Brolin, Kathleen Lloyd, John Marley and Ronny Cox. In short the story is about a mysterious car which goes on a murderous rampage, terrorizing the residents of a small town. I won't lie to you it was a bad movie but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm a guy its in my geins to like bad movies. The main character in this movie was the car itself. A 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III customized by George Barris, the creator of such cars as the 60's batmobile, the munsters coach, the Green Hornet's car and K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider. The reason I bring all this up is that I was wondering if anyone has tried to build this car from plastic? I myself don't have the skills but would love to see if it was done. Heck there are plenty of people here that could actually take this project on. Any takers?
Draggon
Spencer1984 built one I think. I dont know if he is a member here, but I think he frequents "that other place"
RickRollerLT1
I thank I remember this film. saw it on Tv recently... only good thing were the car chases and shots of the car... rest waz your typical 70's mush and gruff... but after seeing the bland comedy of 2 & a half men and this, i'd take 70's corn flakes anyday. Rdkingjay
Love that car and movie. I just read in another thread that someone built one from a resin kit. Curbside kit with body, chassis, wheels/tires/metal axles, glass and metal bumpers. If one is out there, I WANT IT!!

Greg Wann
I have not seen this movie but did see a movie where a guy driving a tanker trailer was trying to kill a guy in a rattle trap car. I think it was one of the first screenplays written by an author that is now famous. In the end the tanker trailer runs over a cliff and blows up. Evil Appetite
To say this movie was bad..is an understatement lol Bad movies can be fun to watch though and I catch this one whenever it's on the tube!
Rdkingjay
Greg, I know the movie you are talking about, but I can't think of the name. I believe the explosion scene in it was taken from the climatic ending of "The Car", in which it too blows up while going over a cliff. Oddly, that same scene was also used in an episode of Knightrider" in the early 80's. Don't ask me why I remember this stuff.

Qwit Pushin
Hey guys, The "truck movie" is Duel and stars Dennis Weaver, In deed, it is 'Duel' which was the first effort by little-known director Steven Spielberg. I actually thought this was pretty good, given it was a made-for-TV movie.
Chuck Most
The resin kit is long gone- so's the company that cast it as far as I know. The car was based on a '71 Lincoln Continental MK III, and there's not kit of that either, so you couldn't go that route. All I can say is keep scouring the online classifieds... or make your own. If you're into such things, Ertl did a diecast of it in 1:18, too.
Patrick2005
I just saw The Car again the other night and own a dvd of Duel. but my personal favorite has to be Christine. That car just looks evil on its own.

Dr. Cranky
I saw the movie, I always though it was pretty interesting, but perhaps not that scary.
Chuck Most
II don't believe he had anything to do with KITT from Knight Rider because there never was any mention of Barris having anything to do with the show when it was on. His shop has done copys of famous cars on occasion with KITT being one of them though. Barris is mostly regarded with the "Super Persuit" and convertible versions from the final season, the Knight 2000 car was designed by a guy named Michael Scheffe. I didn't think it was so scary either but think it might have been the movie that gave Stephen King the inspiration for Christine
Chuck Most
I didn't think it was so scary either but think it might have been the movie that gave Stephen King the inspiration for Christine Probably not. The Car came out in 1977, and the Christine novel came out in 1978, and King has said he started work on the novel when he was still a sports writer in the early '70's. EDIT! The novel came out in 1983, the STORY in the novel takes place in 1978. Edited January 17, 2012 by Chuck Most
Patrick2005
John Carpenter made Christine. But Stephen King did write and direct Maximum Overdrive, another of my favorites.

I actually thought this was pretty good, given it was a made-for-TV movie. Just on a side note, It was Spielberg's first movie AND he actually has a bit part in it & appears on screen....(somewhere), although I've never been able to find him. But then again, I don't have a video & can't pause to check it out.
peter31a
Another in this genre of movies is KillDozer wherein a bulldozer on a remote Island (I think) hits an asteroid that had crashed iinto the Earth and the dozer comes to life and starts killing people. I remember watching this many, many years ago and am a little fuzzy on the whole story line but that's the jist of it.

Allegedly there are 18 more occurrences where his reflection can be seen, but none of them were intentional. It happened when they changed the aspect ratio from the TV to the theatrical release.
