The Creative Explorer Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I read today on the internet Tamiya might going to release a Enzo Ferrari 'Special Edition'. They have ofcourse the 1/24 modelkit and first I assumed that it was going to be a special version of that one. Until I saw the kitnumber: 12047.....Tamiya-enthusiasts know that 120XX is the number series for their Big Scale racing cars, is there going to be a brand new 1/12 modelkit from Tamiya?
Roncla Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 (edited) I'd love to see it as a plastic kit but its most likely another of Tamiyas' very expensive semi assembled premium die cast models. Tamiya already have an Enzo in that range so I'm thinking this new 'Special Edition' will be another version of that. Edited January 31, 2012 by Roncla
The Creative Explorer Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 That is what I thought too at first, but then I looked at the kit numbers, the Semi Diecast all starts with 232XX, and the plastic bigscale modelcars are 120XX. Take the Porsche 934 as example, it was both semi diecast and plastic model.
Roncla Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 The Nuremberg Toy Fair opens tomorrow and the tamiya blog will be reporting live so it will be interesting to see what Tamiya comes up with. They will be re releasing the 1/12 Lotus 72 as well. Its been decades since this one was last in Tamiyas' catalogue http://tamiyablog.com/category/future-releases/
The Creative Explorer Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 hmm, looks more and more interesting. That Lotus has 12046 as productnumber, I am getting excited! I also want the Caterham back in 1/12 from Tamiya, make it so!
Roncla Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Tamiya america is now showing the new kits on its website including the re release of the Ferrari 312B in 1/12. The Ferrari Enzo is an assembly kit of their previous semi assembled die cast model The MSRP of the Enzo $610... ouch!!!! http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/coming_soon.php?sub-id=2000
jaydar Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I will definitely get the 312B. Had it once before. Loved that kit. I have too much invested in the 1/24 Enzo to start again. joe.
The Creative Explorer Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 I seriously think 610 is way over the top, i mean; the 1/12 Porsche 935 went for around 165. Revell just came with an all new tooling 1/12 for 50 bucks, sure, not with the Tamiya detail, but certainly not 12 times less. I think it should've been around 200 bucks, fair price I think
Casey Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 "This is a 1/12 scale premium assembly kit model of the Enzo Ferrari. In order to obtain an intricate level of detail, this kit is constructed from high quality materials including PS resin cowling, die-cast suspension arms and other metal parts, photo-etched meshes, and synthetic rubber tires. This model also features a one-piece monocoque frame, as well as a highly-detailed V12 engine and drivetrain. Suspension arms combine with dampers and stabilizers for an actual working suspension. Metal hinged gull-wing doors open smoothly thanks to built-in springs and dampers. Front and rear cowling can be opened allowing display of the model's internal features. This is the ultimate Ferrari aficionado car model kit." That sounds like something above and beyond a $60 Revell kit, no disrespect to the 1/12 Shelby Mustang kit. I agree that $610.00 is pricey, but it always seems that you get plenty of value when you buy a Tamiya kit, sepecially in a larger scale.

Don't forget that the semi-diecast was retail around 300 dollars, same car. and that the other 1/12 models were around 160.
Pete J. Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Don't forget that the semi-diecast was retail around 300 dollars, same car. and that the other 1/12 models were around 160. The assembled version of this was over $800 so $600 doesn't seem to bad espesially if they upgraded a lot of the parts.
The Creative Explorer Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 ok, over here it was a bit cheaper, around 300 euro's. But when you look at HLJ, the diecast version is around 550 dollars. I know I am whining, but still: it is more expensive than a already built version! I'm sorry, but I think Tamiya is in the wrong here.
Roncla Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) I just went to HLJ and the built diecast is $567 on current exchange rates so its going to be interesting to see how that price is going to compare with this new unbuilt version when it comes to market in Japan. I have yet to find any date as to when this will become available. Have to keep an eye on HLJ new announcements page. Edited February 2, 2012 by Roncla
elan Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Anytime a new large scale kit comes out we should be thankful. When it comes to large scale you take what you can get. It might be a good idea to get one just for investment purposes, look how much Pocher kits have gone up.
Roncla Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 HobbyLink Japan are now listing the Enzo as a March release with a preorder 20% off price of $310.50 at current exchange rates. http://www.hlj.com/product/TAM12047
