Gregg Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I just got the two new 1/25 scale slot car kits from AMT. The first two are a '66 Nova and a '70 Camaro. Pretty Cool! Hopefully I can put them together this week and try them out. Will let you know how they run.
62rebel Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 oooooohhhh.... we don't even HAVE a slot track nearby and i want these BADLY. what's the suggested retail on these?
62rebel Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 what are the other two cars they're supposed to be putting out?
W-409 Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 They look really good, but the prize about $60. Needs to look, are those kits cheaper, or do I have to buy chassis, wheels tires etc. seperately.
62rebel Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 they look like they're a complete kit, my Finn friend.... and yes, 60 bucks seems kinda dear, but i've no idea what the current pricing is on other slotcar stuff. now there's new life for all those old annual kits that still have screw posts molded into the bodies!
W-409 Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 they look like they're a complete kit, my Finn friend.... Yeah, and that would be good thing for the first Slot Car ever. Maybe it would be great way to learn, and then build one from model car body and seperately bought parts.
Gregg Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 I have heard that you may be able to get them in some places for $50, hope so. Put the chassis together. Not bad. Needs weights and some better tires.
62rebel Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 hmmm. apparently my comment that old annual bodies with screw posts would have a new lease on life was premature, since looking at Gregg's chassis, i see no such attachment points. it looks like the sides of the chassis are adjustable to take up room between the rocker panels and you're supposed to add styrene strips to the body to lock them down? that doesn't necessarily rule out annuals as much as it ALLOWS any other body that will fit the adjustable wheelbase and track!
Dwight55 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I guess I'm about to find out. I just ordered the 57, Nova and 70 Camaro from Lucky Bobs.
ra7c7er Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 60 is a bit higher than some of the standard line slot cars Scalextric SCX Carrera all come in around $50 I think the bodies have tabs that slide into the sides of the chassis. I don't like slide chassis' but it allows one chassis to fit different bodies
Sully Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 This is the lowest price I have found, and Ron is a good person to deal with........... Sully http://www.ebay.com/itm/360429766360?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649
slotbaker Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 (edited) $60 is higher than the Scalextric, SCX, Carrera, 1/32 scale cars, but the AMT are 1/25 scale, so that puts them into competition with Carrera 24, TSRF, Scaleauto, etc. They may not have the same detail as the Carrera, or the performance of the TSRF, but they can be had for around $53 retail, so they are not bad in comparison. timc Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Model Roundup has them listed as late Jan at $48.90. $ cars in series are.... 1. 70 Camaro 2. 66 Nova 3. 57 chevy 4.2006 Camaro Hope this helps out some. bigtim
Guest Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 The more I look at these slot cars, the more I want one!! I may just have to make my own track and buy a couple of these for my son and myself.
Tom Setzer Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 The AMT Slot Cars are fairly well designed for none mag racing, but the tyres are junk and must be replaced!
weasel Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 hmmm. apparently my comment that old annual bodies with screw posts would have a new lease on life was premature, since looking at Gregg's chassis, i see no such attachment points. it looks like the sides of the chassis are adjustable to take up room between the rocker panels and you're supposed to add styrene strips to the body to lock them down? that doesn't necessarily rule out annuals as much as it ALLOWS any other body that will fit the adjustable wheelbase and track! just build yer own!!! back in the day, i/we used 1/25 plastic bodies on our own chassis/motor combos all the time!!! the figure 8 cars were the best...load the nose with modeling clay and that puppy will clean out the X!!! gad, slotcars....i traded all my slot stuff for a HUGE box of plastic, good deal for me... man, like i need ANOTHER hobby!!! lol what have you done G????
Tom Setzer Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Now if we can get Dave Reinecke to cast 1/25 versions of his Great 1/32 Sixties Trans Am body kits for the AMT Chassis, they will be great!
