Dr. Cranky Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 (edited) Doctor Cranky collected JL from 1988-2004, and it really became a great compulsion. I've had them boxed in the attic for a number of years always wanting to make an archive of what I have, and so that process has started and I am happy to share some of them with you. Let's see what you've got in your collection? I used to look at these to find inspiration in my builds . . . I like them much better than Hotwheels and/or Matchbox, although I collected those too. Dr. Cranky Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 Here are a few more: There will be lots more added to my Fotki archives in the near future as I continue to photograph them.
moparmagiclives Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 I'm a Hot Wheels freak all the way Dr....
Dr. Cranky Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 Shane, I was too until I realized that I would need a few hundred square feet to house my ever-growing collection, and I couldn't afford it so I stopped. Maybe one day I will resume. Most of us don't realize that there are easily over a million HW with all the variations, etc . . . it's a serious commitment, all right.
Agent G Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Matchbox. My father made yearly visits to the Bahamas in the 60's and 70's for business. Most often he took the family, but whenever he went, he stocked up on Matchbox cars which sold for 25 cents a piece back then. Oh what a collection we have. G
Dr. Cranky Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 Those of you with HOT WHEEL or MATCHBOX collections, feel free to share some of your highlights or rarities here.

I hear ya, I had to make two decisions. #1, was i doing it for fun or for an investment? So of came the wrappers and into those double sided cases, 25 per side I think. The 2nd was what I couldnr collect them all ( like you said, a million easy) so I just pick up hte street rod, hot rod, muscle cars that I would like in real life...in every color When I get get home I'll get some pics. I've got a "grave digger collection, all hot wheel and a "moon eye" collection...maybe one lighting in that bunch..then all the regular old collection. Edited February 6, 2012 by moparmagiclives

Art Anderson Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I spent almost 3 years in product development at Johnny Lightning, March 2002 to December 2004. Have a lot of examples, including some very limited White Lightning cars that were done for the former Lightning Fest attendees in those years. Art

diymirage Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 the one on the left seems to be inspired by the famous Dutch artist Piet Mondrian i have exactly ONE JL car that came with the model kit off the 70 challenger it is my favorite, well past the dozens of hotwheels my boy has simply because it has an opening hood and a nice engine funny story about hotwheels im a sundayschool teacher and a while ago i had only boys in my class we had a church wide contest to see which kid could memorize the most verses i bought a ton of hotwheels and several of the clear plano brand storage totes and gave each child his own space in it then i mounted these totes to the wall and for every verse they memorized they got to pick a hotwheel and put it in there tote the way i had the totes set up the hotwheels actually made a bar graph to make it easy (and fun) to follow each childs progress at the end of the contest the winner got to take ALL his hotwheels home, the others got to pick thier favorite one and take that one home and the teacher gave the rest to his boy and took the totes home to put his modelling tools in to this day you can still make out the names on the totes

I collect Johnny Lightning and Hot Wheels as well. my collection started in 1968. some of my Johnny Lightning stuff: Hot Wheels: Would you like to see some of my open stuff? Mercman Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 When I met my current wife of 27 years now, I had over 7,000 HW's, Matchbox, and other assorted diecast cars. Also 3,500 model car kits. A few years back I decided to down size my collection, and each of my great nieces, and nephews got a carring case of 48 cars each for Christmas. Guess who the favorite uncle was then. Sold a bunch more last summer, now only have maybe 200 or so left. I pick up new ones only if they are exciting subjects. Here are a few pics though from my collection yet.
Mercman Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 My first HW the copper 36, and a redo from a later issue. Still have both.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 7, 2012 Author Posted February 7, 2012 Mercman, those are beautiful. I still get those box sets, but, like you, I have also given away lots of Hotwheels to the kids in the family.
