Inky Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I just bought two Revell - Monogram 1:25 Kenworth W900's and want to customize them. I was wanting to know if there is a web site that sells custom parts like chicken lights, texas bumpers, sun visers, straight stacks, etc, etc, etc? Most this stuff I can scratch build but would rather buy the lights, don't feel like sitting for hours scratch building all of them. Or if any body has any tips on how to make them, I will need allot for stretched sleepers.
BigBad Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 KFS sells photo etch sheets of KW, Peterbilt, Freightliner logos. On these sheets, depending on the model, you also get the cab bottom panel for chicken lights and separate chickenlight "pods", they don't have clear lenses but since it's metallic you can paint the lights with clear amber paint. You also get mud flap weights and other little do-dads.
clayton Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Maybe you can get a set of light from P&P and glue on the panel's. never try that, may work? Lights from Erick are great got a set my self.
Inky Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 Maybe you can get a set of light from P&P and glue on the panel's. I thought about that but I am going to have an extended sleeper, the panels would be to short. I found allot of things I want over at sourkrauts.
scale trucker Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 yes but make the panels out of aluminum sheet and glue the lenses on..sourkrauts is always sold out of just about everything..
Inky Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 The only problem with krauts is it seems like the whole store is out of stock! I noticed that. I might go ahead and make my own.

Dingo5162 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Pardon my Aussie stupidity but apart from chicken lights being on a chicken wot in the hell (aussie slang not swearing) R they. Dingo
txdieseldog Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Dingo, there is a post on here from awhile back about those, but it's the rows and rows of clearance lights (more so than normal). Don't remember exact reason that chicken haulers put them on, but it became a custom accessory instead of an industry marking. Something about chicken haulers used them to signal other truckers that that was the type load they had........???????
txdieseldog Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 (edited) Dingo, heres a google search on it. www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=chicken%20lights 1. chicken lights. any lights put on a 18-wheeler that arn't factory. would you look at that Pete commin down the road, ###### things lit up with all dem chicken ... camaro68 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I made some for a pete with flat strip and half round covered with bmf and painted with red and amber worked ok
Ben Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 The best "lights" I have found are the photo etch lights that ModellTrucks and Parts, sells. They are a photo etch light with amber, red or clear resin on them and they simulate a glass covered light very well!!!! They sell them in different shapes and sizes. http://www.modelmakershop.com/modelmakershop/index.php?cat=c73_Photo-Etched-Lights.html&XTCsid=9csskcpp3phs4a5h65udrg6ds1
Inky Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 (edited) BEN, those are exactly what I was looking for, thank you. Now if I can find a place in the US that has them, probably will cost more for sipping from over there than what I will pay for a few of these. And thank every one else for there help. I don't remember the shipping being that bad. I ordered a bunch so I would have some for several projects. Shipping was pretty quick as well from what I remember.

That is really the only thing about ordering from them that concerns me.
Ben Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 What about converting US$ into Euro, when you order is there an opption to pay with US$ ? I think they have a feature on their site where you can chose the pricing to show in Euros or in US dollars.
Ben Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Ok, I just went and checked. They do accept Paypal so when you pay them from the US, Paypal will convert your dollars to Euros. When you go to "send" the money, Paypal will ask you what type of currency you want to send. They will send the Euro amount and withdraw the correct amount in US money from your bank account or credit card.
martinfan5 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 The only problem with krauts is it seems like the whole store is out of stock! And never replies to emails either, well at least to me
Dingo5162 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Barry thanks for the explaination now I'm not an Aussie with that bit of stupidity hey, seems to me that the chicken guys want to be known that they R carrying chikens more than the fact that they want to be seen, we have cowboy truckers here like that. I was talkin' to a guy at work one (that's when I use to work, some 25 yrs ago now) and I asked him howmany lights he had on his rig facing forward, his reply "at last count 175 amber and 42 green" the lights where on at the time and they where that bright that the truck next to him didn't need use his reading light to see his street directory and the area was lit up as well. Would hate to be drive towards him on the open road. Dingo
