skmodelcars Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 (edited) Last night I finished this one after 3 years! I stripped the bright red finish from this with Paul's Pines and repainted with Duplicolor Self Etching Primer and Duplicolor T164 Dark Blue Metallic. I cleared this with Folk Art HiShine Glaze. I buffed it out with 12,000 grit and plain Colgate toothpaste after about a week. The tailgate inner is missing but it'll be displayed with the tailgate and doors closed. I also had to foil the mirror lenses since they came off with the paint removal. I managed to match the gray trim on the tailgate close enough to not have to do all the trim like the orange one 3 years ago! The kit. Edited March 9, 2012 by skmodelcars
skmodelcars Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 I'll also post the one I did 3 years ago here too! Here's one of my Testors Chevy Avalanche diecast kits. It came painted ArrestMe Red and thought I'd see how House of Kolor Tangelo Pearl would look on this. I used the red as base and scuff sanded it. I then cleared with Folk Art Clear. I discovered a couple thin spots below the mirrors and on the fenders. I scuffed those areas and masked the rest. The 3M 2" blue tape left marks and luckily Folk Art clear buffs out beautifully! The gray plastic trim on the tailgate had to be touched up and this required mixing black and gray Plaid acrylics. I ended up painting ALL this with the new shade of gray. All that gray plastic trim except the tailgate is seperate from the body and is it fiddly! I used 5 minute epoxy that dries clear to secure this. This began life as this!
skmodelcars Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 Why did you post the same thread twice? There are 2 models here! Both were identical out of the box. Apparently I only photographed the kit and red body when I did the orange one 3 years ago. I wanted to show what I started with. (Read the thread thoroughly please;)
hotrod59f100 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) That looks cool.does the liner come with the kit? Edited March 11, 2012 by hotrod59f100
skmodelcars Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 Yes it does. The point is it was missing when I put it together Wednesday evening. Found it last night and the rest is history!
