Aceman Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) I started collecting this series but I can't find the complete list anywhere. Does anyone know how many kits were in this series and what were they? Thanks Edited March 13, 2012 by Aceman
Longbox55 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I don't know if I can give you the comlete list, but I'll pass along the ones I know for sure off the top of my head. '55 Chevy Bel Air (old tool) in red w/Centerline wheels '56 Chevy Sedan (old tool) in white '57 Chevy Bel Air (old tool) in black w/Corvette style wheels '57 Chevy Nomad in yellow w/Centerline wheels Chevy gift set; '54 Sedan in black, '55 Bel Air in blue (stock wheels) '57 Bel Air in red (stock wheels) '54 Chevy Sedan Delivery in red w/enterline direction spoke wheels '56 F-100 in dark blue '70s Chevy truck in black Truck gift set; '56 F-100 in red, Chevy pickup in green (note, the Chevy has the same decal set ans the black truck, only in green, including the "Hot Rod" magazine logo) Ford gift set; '27 T Touring in blue, '34 Ford in red. '78 Firebird in silver/gunmetal (not 100% sure on color) '78 Camaro, unsure about color Corvette gift set, '60 Corvette in black, '65 Corvette in red, '69 Corvette coupe in yellow '68 Corvette L88 convertible in red '69 Yenko Camaro in yellow Gift set, '87-ish Pontiac Firebird Pro Stock in yellow, Yenko Camaro in orange OK, those a just the ones I remeber off the top of my head. There may be a few errors, but I'm pretty sure it's accurate, as most of those are kits I have. If I can remember where they are, I have the Autoworld catalogs from the era ('87-'91), I'll cross reference to see if there's any I missed.
440 Dakota Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 good question I've never seen a list either but heres what a quick Ebay search turned up,I'm guessing you know that the Demons,Saints and Skip's Drive In series are also along these lines Tasca Ford Thunderbolt Monster Machines 2 pk Mysterion Outlaw Custom 57 Chevy 69 Mustang Super CJ 41 Willys Swindler Lincoln LSC Pro Street 54,55,57 Chevy 3 pk Model A delivery,Model T Sedan,34 Roadster 3PK Custom 57 Nomad Pro Street Thunderbird Chi-Town Hustler 1/16th Tom McEwen's Dragsters 2 pk 56 Ford Custom Pickup Russ Davis Ford Thunderbolt Tony Nancy Hall of Fame Dragsters 3 PK Beatnik Bandit Revellution F/C 1/16th 427 Yenko SC Camaro Pontiac J-2000 Pro Street 41 Willys Super Gasser Coupe Custom Model A Pickup 41 Willys Gasser Pickup
Longbox55 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 See, I knew I missed some! Another one to add, the '29 Model A pickup in red with Centerline wheels.
Longbox55 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Just for giggles, the related series, Demons, Saints, and Skips had the following; Demons '54 Chevy Sedan Delivery black '56 F100 red '29 Model A pickup (built as closed cab in the box art) dark blue '26 Model T Sedan delivery in white (Lil' John Buterra sedan w/filler panels for the rear windows) '41 Willys in light blue '32 Ford Sedan w/ flip up body in yellow (Orange Crate) Saints Henry J in dark blue '33 Ford Roadster in Burgundy (scale is way off, frame is Lil' John Buttera T based) '57 Ranchero in dark red Skip Fiesta Drive In (I'm only listing the kits I know for sure were in it, namely those i have in my collection) '55 Chevy in black (same as Hot rod red issue) '57 Nomad in dark blue (same as yellow Hot Rod issue) '59 Ford Skyliner in coral/salmon Of note, the Skips kits could be considered an extension of the Hot rod kits. I recall that they were even mentioned in Hot Rod Magazine when the Hot Rod kits were still being produced.
Fabrux Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 The horrible Revell '78 Chevy C10 was also released in this series. The Mustang II was the King Cobra street racer and the Fox body was a re-box of the McLaren Mustang.
timc Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) Don't forget Mickey Thompson's Callenger-1 and the Attempt-1 kit's. Edited March 13, 2012 by timc
Chuck Most Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Many of them were reissues of common kits, done in a different color (such as the '29 Model A pickup), while others I have never seen issued in anything other than Hot Rod brand box art (Lincoln Mark VII LSC). The Hot Rod series was also the only reissue for the Mickey Thompson Attempt I... a kit I think is WAY past overdue for a reissue. Two supercharged Pontiac Tempest slant fours and a very nice Dragmaster chassis? Don't mind If I do!
jaymcminn Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I'm pretty sure the Anglia and the Thames panel van were in the Hot Rod series as well.
Fabrux Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 i don't think the FOX kit was a re-box of the McLaren Mustang as it had different parts. IIRC the HOT ROD series kit was last re-issued in the Basic Builder series a few years ago, red car on the box art. i looked for an image of the HOT ROD series kit on Google but turned up nothing. I have this kit and it is indeed the McLaren Mustang. Its molded in red. I didn't get the box with the kit so I'm not sure what it looks like. Even the instruction sheet I have is a photocopy. Its apparently part of a 3-car set: the Mustang, an 82 Firebird and a 2G Camaro (according to the instruction sheet). The kit is dated 1986 and carries a number of 7459-3800. Google search with that number gives this box:
Dr. Cranky Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Some of these kits on the list are some of my favorite kits to build, like the 41 Willys. Thanks for sharing this list.
Draggon Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I think the Orange Crate was in this series too, watered down as a street car.
62rebel Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Revell had a ball doing "themed re-issues" every couple of years..... this, the "Hot Rod" series, i remember well; and then the "Saints" and "Demons" reissues... the venerable tri-5 Chevies were constantly being updated and reissued under new, trendy names... the trouble was, they often recut the molds and removed the "old, obsolete" (and now, highly desirable!) parts, replacing them with "new and improved, modern performance" parts... i.e., the "moon disc" wheels they put into the '53 Chevy panel and sedan.... '80's multipiece alloy wheels in the '57 Chevy.... say what? outof place? naaawww.....
Fabrux Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 The version I have doesn't indicate any other molding colours; the only engraving is Revell 1985. It has the same body, fascia, and hood as the McLaren Mustang but the same wheels as that newer Cobra issue, plus the decklid spoiler. Almost the same as the separate Hot Rod issue.
Aceman Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 Thanks for the list,,,,, I didn't realize that there were some many.
Abell82 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 (edited) I hate to hijack the op's post further but... thank you for digging that box art image up Mike! i wonder how much tooling those kits share? both have the Euro 5-spokes i remember but if you look, the lips and centers are different. i have an old McLaren kit that i looked at earlier as well, too bad i goofed it up by painting it and applying the decals. The Turbo Cobra and the HotRod Mustang are similar but not the same. They share the the same chassis, interior, and engine. But the bodys are different. The Hotrod Mustang does have the front end of the McLaren, but has the Capri rear taillights, AND it is the ONLY issue Revell made with SVO sailpanels. The Turbo Cobra is all Mustang { well...except the fenders! (LOL)}. This was made from the Hotrod kit ... Thats how I know. Edited March 15, 2012 by Abell82
Wayne's World Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Skip's also had the VW Cabrio. Not a bad kit.
RickRollerLT1 Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 IIRC, I think this kit http://www.ebay.com/itm/Revell-Cobra-Mustang-II-Model-Kit-H-1345-1-25-scale-street-racer-kit6-/310383192620?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item484447aa2c was in the Hot Rod series also.
gwolf Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 The Hot Rod themed 57 Nomad was one of the best kits ever! If I remember right, it had opening doors and opening top and bottom rear hatch. I got it for Christmas in 1986 or 1987.
prostreeter69 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 There was also a mid eighties camaro. Nice set of centerlines with low profile pirelli tires.
bigphoto Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Interesting that no one mentioned 29' Model 'A' pick up.
Rob Hall Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Interesting that no one mentioned 29' Model 'A' pick up. Post #4 and #5 mention it.
Brett Barrow Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 "Monster Machines" - Tommy Ivo's Showboat and Mickey Thompson Challenger I double kit.
