lonewolf Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 has anyone ever tried rub-on transfers instead of decals?i picked up a package at Michael's with an auto racing theme that i thought would look good on a model and according to the package, they can be used on plastic. Also, could they be clear coated with Future?
Olle F Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 I have used them on some race cars, and they work great. Where I had to use several of them to write something (like driver's name and such), I found it easier to get them on straight if I put them on clear decal film and then transfered the whole thing to the model. I used Testors clearcoat over mine without problems, but I haven't tried Future.
KENNEDYJR Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 I have used a lot of the type made for pine cars. The only clear I have tried was testors. That worked fine.
crispy Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 I used dry transfers on my ATF Dingo: These were some woodland scenics dry transfers. Chris
VW Dave Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Woodland Scenics' lettering worked well for me too, although this one didn't get clearcoat:
John Bowman Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 I have a 1/9th scale Protar motorcycle kit with an entire sheet of there 'rub on' style decals. they have to fit some pretty complicated shapes so I am a little leary about using them. The plan is to rub them on to some clear water slide decal paper and apply them.
lonewolf Posted June 26, 2007 Author Posted June 26, 2007 thanks for all the input guys.im sure im going to use them, maybe try the future thing on something from the parts box first.hey John,a fellow nova scotian.where you from exactly?im in lower sackville, just outside of Halifax.
Bruno Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Bringing an old thread back to life! I was wondering if rub-on transfers would work on the clear parts? I'm looking for a way to put white numbers and letters on the windows of drag cars. I have found some rub-on transfers from Woodland Scenics that looks good, but I'd like to know if it works before ordering them... Anyone tried those rub-on transfers on windows?
MsDano85gt Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I have a few u.s. Airfix fox mustang kits, those come with dry transfer decal sheets the work pretty well just cut close like with any waterslide and be paitent and take your time results should be pretty good
MAGNUM4342 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Yes, you can use Future. I've used it over dry transfer, wetslide, and almost every kind of paint there is. It's never let me down...yet.
Deathgoblin Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I like the idea of doing the dry transfer onto decal film. That would be a lot easier to work with.
