Flat black Dodge Chargers from the movies.

Recommended Posts

Hi, me again. I was sitting looking through my stash while watching the movie Fast Five, and inspiration hit me like a sledge hammer. I have kits of 1968, 1969 and 1970 Dodge Chargers.

I want to make the 1970 the Charger (Dominic's) from Fast Five, and the 1969 Charger from the movie Drive Angry. I thought I might do a tri-fecta of sorts and do a 1968 movie Charger too. The 1969 and 1970 are both flat black chargers if i'm seeing them right so what I want to know is this. Is there a flat black 1968 Charger from any movie I could do as the third car?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Here is some info on the Charger from Drive Angry, now here is the bad news, the paint is not flat black , its a flat blue, here are pics, and then a interview with the movies stunt coordinator, and all the info you need to make a model is there, there are a few changes made so it looks less like the General, all that and the color of the paint is in there

Okay, the Drive Angy car is out and Death Proof is in. Any help on engine and interior details would be great. Thanks to anyone taking the time to post. Shane, I don't know much but the Fast Five car is definitely a 1970. Just look at the front bumper and taillights. Sorry Jeff, I should have chosen a different picture.

I know you are on all black theme, but the Drive Angry car is still cool, I have thought about doing one myself.

Thanks for the info Dan. I'm familiar with Don Holthaus's work but his 1970 is based on the MPC kit (1/25th) and i'm doing all three in (1/24th) Revell. Fortunately the original MPC 1970 bumper I have fits the Revell nicely except for some slight fender mods. I am doing the FAST FIVE car, not the F&F car. F&F was gloss black and i'm doing all flats.

Right. It kinda threw me off when I started watching Fast 5 because I kept thinking, didn't the Charger have a blower? Not sure what the backstory is because i've only watched the first one and the latest. I had no interest in Tokyo drift.

The Drive Angry charger I'm not sure is a dark purple or a dark black purple, plus the doors had no vent glass at all. The Death Proof Charger had no interior in at all almost but for the dash. It also had a full cage in it as well. The Fast Five Charger was a 1970 Charger model flat primer black and the Drive Angry & Death Proof Chargers are both 1969 models. Big differents in the grills in the 1969's & '70's years.

If the costs of a full resin shell are to cost prohibative you might want to try ouellette1257 http://myworld.ebay.com/ouellette1257&ssPageName=STRK:MEFSX:SELLERID&_trksid=p3984.m1543.l2533 on ebay, he does a 70 Charger grill, tail panel & door scoops for around $12 - $15 if i remember correctly. Good castings, i bought a set before i found out about Missings Links full shell which i bought also.

I don't need any resin parts at all. I have an original 1970 MPC front bumper which fits the Revell kits nicely. I'll only need to modify the front fenders and splash panel a bit.

I never said the Fast Five Charger was in gloss black. It was in flat paint for the whole of the movie. It was gloss with a blower in the first movie The Fast and the Furious.

Well, there is one part i'll most likely need in resin. Does anyone know where I can get the rubber duck hood ornament for the Death Proof car? By the way, i've been looking at info over on the IMCDB pages. Alot of what they have is just guesswork. One guy is even adamant that the DP car is a 1971 R/T!

Wowzers! Other than the links martinfan provided, there's very little about any of these cars. Instead of going with what they actually had under the hood i'm going to build them with what they supposedly had. Death Proof and Blade cars will have 440's and the FAST 5 car will be HEMI powered.

I'm finding mixed results on the DP car. Did it have the skull and bones on the hood or not? I did find the rubber duck hood ornament on ebay but the guy wants $16 bucks for a buy-it-now. Seems a little pricey to me. Does anyone have pictures of the Death Proof roll cage they could post?

On the 68 blade car are you gonna add the liights to the grill? As in these 511e04c8.jpgwe're they stock or just added to the car? On the one movie he fries som vampires with the lights.
