Harry P. Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 There are a bunch of good ones, Mcguiar's is definitely a good one.
SoCalCarCulture Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Barry likes it better when you know how to spell his name!
mikemodeler Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Meguiars' has a full range of polishes and waxes to take a paint job from start to finish. It just depends on how much shine is already there as to which wax or polish to use. If the goal is to wax a paint job that has already been rubbed out, then a carnuba wax would be the best bet.
crazyjim Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 I use The Treatment Model Car Wax. I'm on my last jar and the new stuff appears to come in a plastic bag. Maybe time to switch to a Meguiars' product.
jaymcminn Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 (edited) I use Meguiars #26 Hi-tech Yellow liquid wax on both my 1:1 car and models. I used to use the #7 glaze for polish, but I've switched to the new Ultimate Compound. Edited May 25, 2012 by jaymcminn
Dr. Cranky Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 John, funny you ask about this, I have just finished making a little how-to on the process of waxing and buffing.
moparfarmer Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 I use Meguiar's cleaner or Scratch X then their Gold Class paste wax. Used Meguiar's on my 1:1 for at least 25 years and now use it on models. There are others but Meguiar's is still the best. Each to his own. If you buy from an auto store you will have enough for the rest of your life.
DR JAY Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I have used Scratch-X and Gold Class wax for years on my models and 1:1 cars and motorcycles and have nothing bad to say other than "Boy- They sure don't give that stuff away, do they?"
ffreak Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Tamiya also makes a very good polishing compound and finishing compound. I also like Novus # 1 and #2.
CorvairJim Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 (edited) I use Meguair's polish after polishing the paint out with polishing cloths, then I use Mother's "Hot Wheels" wax to finish it off. (I got a great screamin' deal on the stuff on eBay a few years ago - a case lot of a dozen 16oz bottles for $10+shipping... ) I use the same procedure on my 1:1 cars, substituting wet sanding and rubbing compound for the polishing cloths. The Mother's wax seems to deepen the shine of the polished paint, and it holds up great! Edited May 26, 2012 by CorvairJim
