gtx6970 Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I have the one I planned to use about done., top and bottom But, I had a brain fart , does any make or currently have avail said hood in resin. I am well aware of a former ebay seller making it, but said seller has since gone south. I have been talking to someone to have said hood replicated. and was wondering if there was a market for it in resin. After receiving a few items from said caster, I am confident it will be a nice piece once done. This is a replica of sixpack scoop style hood on the Sox and Martin 1970 Cuda And other than maybe early in the 1971 season where the 71 S+M car had it. I can think of no other team that ran it. So I am a little leary to procede and have it done. As it is - it will be done to fit the MPC - AMT body but with some timming can be easily adapted to fit the Johan body as well. Once my camera charges up, I'll take a few picture of the one I have done
Casey Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 (edited) Did you use the 1/24 Monogram '69 Super Bee scoop? If so, how well does it work in proportion to the 1/25 scale hood? Or is the difference not noticable? If smlblckdodge on eBay doesn't make it, and the caster in Lebanon, TN whose name escapes me didn't, I can't think of anyone else who would have, Edited May 28, 2012 by Casey
VW Dave Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 I would call that more of a 'super stock' style scoop than a six pack; it's like the Hemi Dart had. Neither was a factory hood on the E-body, so IMHO the market for it would be kinda limited.

If smlblckdodge on eBay doesn't make it, and the caster in Lebanon, TN whose name escapes me didn't, I can't think of anyone else who would have, 1st seller I bought one from there online store and was not happy with the quality . 2nd - They 'did' make it, but with all the negatives the seller has received lately I have doubts it's a fluke and is most likely gone. That said , Yes, it is the monogram scoop on an MPC/AMT 1/25th scale hood. And once installed it looks right at home there. I would like to do a AMT/MPC Duster hood next for the S+M 1971 Duster

Sox and Martin used this same style of hood scoop on both the 1970 (and early 71) Barracuda and there 1971 Duster used it as well it's obviously not intended for the OE stock and/or factory stock builds ----- it's a race car only thing Edited May 30, 2012 by gtx6970
dragnut Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Could always use a few if only the scoop part were cast seperate thanks steve.
Casey Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 I never noticed 'til I clicked on your attached image, Bill, but it looks like the bottom 1/3 of the scoop's "mouth" is cut off. I haven't seen that used on any other cars, so I don't think there'd be a huge market for it. Now, clear blue-molded headlights for the S&M cars on the other hand...
rssschris Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 I am actually looking for one of those hoods. Chris Downs
gtx6970 Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 (edited) Could always use a few if only the scoop part were cast seperate thanks steve. the scoop only is already avail thru Reliable Resin, They also have the flat cuda hood. But it's 2 part item that requires molding in the resin scoop on a resin hood I feel the item is best molded as one unit. And yes, the scoop on the actual car appears to be opened up along the bottom of the forward opening. Thats easily done by each individual owner on an as needed basis . Now, clear blue-molded headlights for the S&M cars on the other hand Same deal, already avail thru Reliable resin Edited May 28, 2012 by gtx6970
gtx6970 Posted June 25, 2012 Author Posted June 25, 2012 (edited) I'm currently talking to a caster about the possibility so we'll see where this goes . On an application note though . Don Grotheer , John Hagen and John Petrie all used the same hood in 1970 ,,,,, some even modified in a similar way as the Sox and Martin car with an enlarged opening. Decals are avail for the S+M car as well as the Grotheer car. I'm not aware of decals to do the John Hagen or the John Petrie cars( sure wish they were though,,,hint hint ) The Petrie car might not be to bad to replicate in paint but the Hagen car would be a bit tough Edited June 25, 2012 by gtx6970
rssschris Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 If this hood becomes available, let me know. I could sure use 1. Chris
caine440 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I used a Reliable resin hood and conversion for mine.
gtx6970 Posted June 25, 2012 Author Posted June 25, 2012 Roger, I looked into just using the Reliable resin / scoop pkg. Actually I saw one at a show this past winter and it appeared to be the scoop was just glued down on top of the hood instead sunk into / molded in to the hood ,which ( again IMO ) makes it look to tall. And the 2 piece design makes , for me , is too much work. had the scoop been molded into the hood like the master I have done , IMO . I think it would make for a much better finished product. I have my master packed up and will ship it of tomorrow morning. so I should know something in the next few weeks how this is going to work out
