revshag Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 (edited) Wondering, which kit has the best (loaded word, I know) Chevy 350 with an automatic tranny in 1/25 scale? Thanks, Chris Edited June 16, 2012 by Casey
mini trucker Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 The one in the Monogram 37 ford kit is one of my favorites if you are looking for a hot rod type of engine
Casey Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 The Revell 1/25 '69 Nova SS and 1/25 '69 Camaro Z/28 both have nice small blocks, with separate parts for the water pump, etc. The Nova has a really nice set of headers, too, if you're going that route...but both have manual transmissions attached. The Revell '57 Chevy Bel Air Sedan 2'n1 has a decent small block with an attached auto trans, but I suspect it's a 2-speed Powerglide. What era vehicle is this engine going in? I'm trying to remember if the AMT '33 Ford Sedan included an auto trans or not...
Bartster Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Depends alot on what accessories you're running & what you're putting it in. '66 Nova has a pretty nice carbed sb. Beatnik Bandit 2 has a real nice LT-1 f.i. engine with great block hugger headers.
mademan Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 im with casey, BY FAR the 69 nova has the best 350 in it.
revshag Posted June 14, 2012 Author Posted June 14, 2012 I'm using the AMT 84 GMC Pickup for my build. The motor in it isn't so great. And as I'm making so many mods, I want a good looking motor and I wanted to start with the best foundation. Thanks for the input. Now, I'm going to seek out the parts. Chris
Harold Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 The MPC '80 Monte Carlo has a 305/ auto combination. Separate it from the block and you're good to go. Also, the AMT Camino SS has a small block- auto trans combo.
hotrod59f100 Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 (edited) Is there any 1/25 Chevy 307ci, 327ci and a 396ci ? If so is there any with auto transmission? Edited June 16, 2012 by hotrod59f100
Longbox55 Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Since the smallblock Chevy is pretty much the same on the outside regardless of displacement, any 1/25 scale smallblock will work. The 305 from the recently reissued MPC '80 Monte Carlo will fit the bill nicely, and has a decent TH350 trans. The AMT '72 Chevy truck also has a smallblock engine with an automatic, a TH400 if memory serves. Same goes for Passenger big block Chevies, externally, they're identical. I beleive the AMT '67 Impala did have a big block with TH400 trans.
hotrod59f100 Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Sweet I have the 67 impala. Thanks . I learned something new
Fat Brian Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 I beleive the AMT '67 Impala did have a big block with TH400 trans. The Impala has a four speed, the newer 57 Vette with the drag stars has a big block with an auto as does the 70 Monte Carlo SS454.
RichCostello Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 The Revell 64 Impala has a 327 auto.trans.,and the AMT 68 El Camino has a 396 auto.trans. I'm sure there are a lot more out there, but these are two that I have. Not sure, but I think a 307 and 327 have the same block,so,either should work. Rich

Thanks for the correction. I know it was one of the AMT kits tooled in the las 15 years or so. Could have sworn it wasd the Impala. I will admit, I do not have either kit in my stash.

Fat Brian Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 revell street burners series has a 67 chevelle with a 396. I just did a quick eBay search. That Revell kit has a four speed, I think every modern tooling Revell kit with a BBC has a four speed.
Longbox55 Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 That's correct, no automatics with the Revell big blocks.
hotrod59f100 Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 (edited) The trans doesn't mater noW that I think of it . It's going in a case after I put it in the car . I'm not entering any thing with it so I guess it's ok if it's a manual. Its going in a chevelle replica of my dads. I don't think he'd even know . Hes clueless on car parts. mikemodeler Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 There are some nice resin automatics available out there. I believe MAD has a few different variations.

The new-in-the-'90s AMT '68 El Camino does have a very nice BBC and TH-400 auto trans, as does the similar era AMT '70 Monte Carlo. No separate oil pan on either, though. The trans in the 1/24 Revell '37 Ford appears to be a TH-700R4, based upon the pan shape: Pics of the 1/24 Revell (Monogram) '37 Ford Coupe Street Rod's trans: Edited February 27, 2021 by Casey
Sledsel Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Great timing for this thread. I am wanting a Chevy with auto trans for my 70 Impala and 76 Caprice kit.

Wow, this is an old thread. But since it was brought up...I just picked up this MPC ‘86 El Camino. It looks to have a pretty decent 305 and turbo 350. It even includes a heat riser duct and a mechanical fuel pump.
