In browsing ebay for cheap kits I've noticed that some Monogram kits are labeled skill 2 while others are labeled skill 3 even when they are the same kind of car. I would really prefer a 3 if I can get them. Are the kits really diferent or did they just change the way they labeled them? Check out the links below.

At first glance without much thought I can hypothesize that in comparing these two, one reason could be decals. The actual guts are the same, minus maybe different valve covers. But the DW masking for that paint scheme is far more challenging if you've had one of those Lumina kits.

Something I noticed in more ebay searching was that the early Lumina kits like the Earnhardt 90 and 91 kits and all of the Days of Thunder kits were marked as 2s. There was an update to the Lumina kit in 92 or 93 and after that all of the kits were marked as 3s.

I know what the different levels mean, I want to know if there are two different Lumina kits with different parts counts.

No all the Luminas were the same, some had HENDRICK ENGINES valve covers, some were blank and some said CHEVROLET. Thats the only differences.

Yep, that is correct my friend.

No problem. Just don't ask which ones had which covers because that's a supreme ###### shoot lol. I do think the Days of Thunders kits all had the Hendrick covers, since H.M built all the Luminas in the movie. I don't care for H.M myself, so i shave the lettering off when applicable.

Let me double check on that for you , hold on. Ok I checked one of the DOT kits I have, yes Hendrick on the valve cove ;):D

Oh come on, its ok to have built NASCAR kits, or to , dare you say, like them or NASCAR ;)

I have two of the DOT kits, one sealed, the other I opened, I picked them up at the last swap meet, I I want to build all the DOT movie NASCAR's, I built most of them as a kid, but they are long gone and looked like Stevie Wonder built them. I built the City Chevy a few years ago, and I have the 51 exxon ( Roudy burns), and the 18 hardees ( russ wheeler) kits to build, so I jsut need the superflo one,

Its fine to like and build them yeah, but i have more than need be lol. Luckily they make good donors for other projects; Especially the firebottles.
