BigRandyV Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Just was wondering if there is a kit out there of Jerry Reeds Rig from Smokey and the bandit?
Jim B Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 There is currently no single kit for the "Smoky & the Bandit" Kenworth W900. That being said, it can be made with the frame, engine, hood & sleeper from the AMT Kenworth W925 kit, the cab from either the Revell of Germany W900 or T900 kits, a tandem torsion bar suspension (if your AMT kit doesn't have one) from either P&P Resin Works or Melbourne Model Truck Accessories, and the gold decals from Model Truckin'. Here are the links: http://ppvintagekits.com/ http://www.freewebs.com/mmtaer/ http://modeltruckin.com/store/ There is some debate as to the engine type in the actual truck (since they used three trucks fro the movie you have some options). You can go with the NTC350 from the AMT kit or a Caterpiller 1693TA from KFS. Have fun!

Yahshu Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 This is a build that I'm collecting parts for now. What would be the best/correct trailer ?
cappy625 Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 it said hobbs on the mudflaps on the trailer. but it looked like a fruehauf to me.from what i was told, hobbs was a division of fruehauf.so i whould say the amt watkins 40ft reefer whould be a close match.
Cornpatch Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Ertl made a Smokey and the Bandit trailer, issued in 1981, stock # 8035. Decals for the side of the trailer are included. I am not sure if this trailer was from the 1st movie or the 2nd movie, but it does build into a nice looking trailer. Since these have been out of production for quite some time, E-bay or a private party willing to sell one would probley be your best bet for one. Jeff
lapazleo Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Yep Ertls kit is from second movie. AMTs fruehauf currently available from Round 2 is closet for first movie.
phoneguy Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 This is a build that I'm collecting parts for now. What would be the best/correct trailer ? The trailer decals I print are based on the AMT 40' kit.
lapazleo Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 The Ertl part 2 trailer has what amount to stickers not decals. Jerries decal are first rate.
clayton Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Jerrys are the best I have used other decals from him. Have not used the "Smoke decals" but looking at the photos his are more like the move. Yep Ertls kit is from second movie. AMTs fruehauf currently available from Round 2 is closet for first movie. Yep Ertls kit is from second movie. If I remember rite. part 2 had just a blue stripe down the side. and the GMC was silver with blue stripes.(dark blue and lite blue).
bandit1 Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Yea, I know what you'd say! hehe....your thinking i was going to say "CAT"?.... ....WRONG!.... im not sure about the gmc...but the two kwhoppers have known locations....first one is been restored....second one the same guy that owns the first one knows where the second one is and in the process of getting it!.... THATS WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY JERRY!...... and you can add to that a friend of mine ...his uncle owns the first and trying to buy the second kwhopper!
Yahshu Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) These are 2 different trailers, so which one is correct? & what wheels are on the tralier? Edited July 15, 2012 by Yahshu
pete3522 Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 the hobbs(fruehauf) is the correct one. And spoke (dayton) wheels are the ones used on the hobbs trailer in the movie
