IronMunkie Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Figured I'd build something cool - with an actual plan from the start. Anyway... The idea is to build this: '69 GTX. Full custom fabricated Sub frame - inspired by Marcus Jones and his '68 Charger - here: http://www.modelcars...16 Some deep dish scale 19-20" wheels with some serious rubber in the bum. Schmick paint job - two tone. Acid Green ontop of black, with a silver pin stripe separating the two - then Flat Black Bumble bee stripe on the back. (maybe on the black bumble bee stripe) Gloss black window surround, etc - all chrome will be gloss black. Fully detailed engine bay with a 426 HEMI - with a stock interior. Hoping she comes out pretty good. EDIT: Ok - so I may end up only building a custom rear subframe - I have to wait until my wheels arrive to be sure - In the mean time - I'm still gonna build the full subframe just to prove to myself that I can with my limited resources. :-D Anyway pics so far: Side trim shaved, badges shaved, side markers filled and shaved. Shot this side in primer to see how it came out, minor sanding and a little bog to go. Rear subframe on the left - I've progressed a tad further since then - but I dunno if it'll hold... Anyway - more pics to come as I get further tonight while I watch Smokey and the Bandit 2. Suggestions and criticism welcome. :-)
IronMunkie Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 (edited) That's what I'm thinking - it's the main car I have as my "Idea's" picture - and that First pic is my PC wallpaper.. lol. I still dunno whether I go full black with green highlights. Or the Two tone.. Anyone got suggestions? You posting that makes me set on the Gloss black bumpers - thinking about molding them in too... bryan_m Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 great diea! i have a pro touring charger in the works now..... keep it goin! bryan
IronMunkie Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 more pictures - ended up going with my Two tone look. And it's f'ing bright Green. lol. anyway... 440 cubes in the process of painting - Chrysler Orange. Basic Subframe - I am hoping to get some solid bar to work with - but It's not too bad working with the hollow bar. Didn't set at the right angles - it's higher, but it's not... "In your face" enough like the AM Chassis. Showing the cross bar to mount the springs and shocks onto off the Diff. Primed. Wet sanded. SHIIIIIIIINNNNNYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hood is going the green too - but the vents on either side (the orange bit.. lol) I am painting matte black. Comments and Criticism welcome. :-) This is also my First time using my Airbrush - came out quite good.
IronMunkie Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 (edited) ok - so there's been a SLIGHT. Teency. Weency. little problem. Masked up the green, noticed something weird under it... The green paint, all shiny and awesome in it's appearance - bubbled up and peeled right off. I have NOOOO clue why. But it means I gotta have a slight colour change. To Black 'Cause I got no green - and it was the last Green pot in Penrith. :s ANYWAY - repainted it. Considering getting some brake fluid to demolish the paint and start over. in the mean time - Interior. And Sub frame. :-D Ah well - repaint. Edited July 19, 2012 by IronMunkie
mopar68 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Oooooh I have reserved a front row seat to watch this one Sorry to hear about the paint mate :\ Owell, I reckon black will look awesome
IronMunkie Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 Yeah - gonna strip it back. Anyone know anywhere in Oz, or over the pond that I can get cheap Evergreen stuff? The guys over here in Penrith - kinda don't have any good modelling stock.
mopar68 Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Not sure of anyone near Penrith, I got an order from Strada Sports last time I needed Evergreen. Great service and alot cheaper than any hobby shop I've seen in Aus. http://www.stradasportsstore.com/page120.html
IronMunkie Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 (edited) Thanks mate. :-) Without Pics I can't pick what's what in the Styrene department. But they have a nice selection of race-spec models. :-D Edited July 20, 2012 by IronMunkie
IronMunkie Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 It was Acrylic primer, With Acrylic paint. And I know EXACTLY what went wrong. The solvent I used to thin the paint so I could spray it with the airbrush reacted with the Tape adhesive, causing the two to almost combine, then something else happened and it all started bubbling/peeling. All good - gonna grab myself some brake fluid sometime next week while I'm not searching for a Job.. lol
