Dominik Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Hallo everybody, when i build my Hornet Station Wagon, there was a not needed body "parked" on my bench. What should i do with it? I didn't knew that time. Some days later, my Mellow-Yellow-Nascar parked near it...with a terrible paintjob. So..."what is happening, if i..." ...some crazy thoughts came up..."...could it work?" Don't think about it buddie - do it! If it doesn't work, kick the body in the trash! Yes, it worked! I began one day before christmas with a eeeeasy build last year. A long rest to build other cars for the contest, some holidays - now it is done! The Dick Rathman's #120 Hudson Hornet has arrived the new century! Here we go - have fun with the pictures: It was just a fun built but i like it. some easy work to fit the body on the NASCAR-Chassis, removed all trim, built a front hood and the rear bumper, also built the front gril and the windows. On the chassis i only cutted a small part of the dashboard and the rear wheelhouses. The decals i used are from Jim Heller. Thanks for your attention, comments always welcome. Feel free for all kind of feedback - goods and bads
TooOld Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 For some odd reason I really like it ! ! Maybe because I've lost interest in Cup cars since they are all basically identical . This opens the door to all kinds of fun builds ! Very nice build .
W-409 Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 WOW! Your Station Wagon Hudson was incredible build, this one is another one. Great idea to use that leftover body on this one. It looks mean & good.
Chuck Most Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Love it! NASCAR should take a look at this idea. 'Retro Cup', anyone? What? A boy can dream, can't he?
Grumpa Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Dominik, this is so cool! It looks so right! It looks like it could run out there with anything on todays tracks! Wild and great idea!
zenrat Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Awesome. Years ago, in a Dare to Be Different Issue, Hot Rod featured a 1:1 scale Hudson with more modern NASCAR running gear (yeah, sorry - no idea is ever original). I've always wanted to build one but the closest i've got so far has been a '58 Impala on a NASCAR Monte Chassis. Looks like I don't have to bother now. Great work. I'm loving it. Big Thumbs Up.
bbowser Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Love it! NASCAR should take a look at this idea. 'Retro Cup', anyone? What? A boy can dream, can't he? They could at least look into using it as a pace car, how cool would that be?
Dominik Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 Thank you buddies! Thank you very much for your "warm words". Love it! NASCAR should take a look at this idea. 'Retro Cup', anyone? What? A boy can dream, can't he? ....you hit the nail. That would be...historic bodys, modern chassis...
Art Laski Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Fun build, Dominik! Cool way to salvage your parts and a fine looking model.
Edward Gore Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Great idea! Very unique build and I like the pace car idea mentioned above
