Austin T Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I was working on my Sunbeam Tiger this after noon and decided to tape it off and shoot the last color, black.Once it dried I went and removed the tape to find this!I really like the look I have achieved with the masking and I know why it bled,I used cheap tape that hasn't worked before, stupid moment. Is there any way to fix it?I can't touch up the orange without having to re-mask and airbrush the whole thing again because it's two different paints.
nboldman Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I would likghtlt wetsand with like 8000 grit, but then you'll have to clear it of you aren't going to already.
High octane Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Everyday 3M masking tape works fine for a lot of two toned paint jobs. After the first color and masking, one NEEDS to spray a light coat of CLEAR along the tape edges BEFORE spraying the second color. That way if there's ANY bleeding, it will be clear and NOT your second color.

Ramfins59 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I've used stuff called Frog Tape to mask off a couple of parts and the stuff works really well. You have to burnish down the edges really well (I used a toothpick) and you get a perfect separation line with NO bleeding.
cobraman Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 As Nick said, always shoot some clear before your second color and that will solve the 2 tone problem. Good luck with the wet sanding, I hope it works out for you.
Austin T Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 Well wet sanding didn't do squat and tring to match the color was a nightmare so I think I will tape things off and re shoot paint.
