blueoval92 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 im looking to build a model airboat. being from south louisiana they are a big part of what we do down here. i want to know if there is a kit i could buy or if i would have build it all from scratch. im kind of leaning more to building from scratch because thats how they are built in real life. and i would like the challenge. let me know what yall think.
sjordan2 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 This RC kit might work for some basic parts if you want it to run, but it doesn't look much like a real one. http://www.stevensaero.com/StevensAero-WaterBoard-Laser-Cut-Electric-RC-Airboat-Kit-p-20119.html
cobraman Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 That would be a cool project. Due to it's mostly flat surfaces it looks like the boat itself may not be too hard. You could source the motor and prop from some kit. I suspect that the cage could be the toughest item on this project but if you look around you may find a small personal fan that may have about the right scale. Good luck if you go forward with this project and please post some photos as you progress.
blueoval92 Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 the boat would be easy. just have to cut down some sheet styrene. the cage i would do by hand with styrene tubing. for the engine im thinking finding a 572 or somethong supercharged. thats whats used on the real ones.
Austin T Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 At the local show here in town last year a guy brought in a model of one and set it in the wrong area.Pretty cool but I didn't pay much attention to it at the time sadly.
