David Thibodeau Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 So I was on vacation in July and I get this email from Matt Wells asking if I was up to build a 1/12 ENZO TAMIYA kit with full Carbon decals.... Of course twist my arm on that one!! ;D So after a week the kit arrives.. and what a kit it is!! Lets start! The engine here is complete... What a fantastic engineered kit this is. The only thing I added heree was cigarette foil to the heat shield by the transmission.
David Thibodeau Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Building it out of the box is quite impressive.... especially when the entire body is like this: I will clear it as soon as I get the rest of the CF templates applied... its pretty time consuming!! I finally have the body components clear coated. I shot them with a large tip in my Badger 350. It is the gun I use exclusivey for clearing. Then I polished each panel carefully with 2000 and 3M compound. I shot the wheels with Tamiya Gunmetal acrylic. ]
Chillyb1 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 This is going to be really spectacular. Thanks for the show, Dave.
Mooneyzs Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Wow this is an Impressive build you got going. I love the carbon fiber on this whole body. It looks Killer!!! Beautiful work
GoatGuy Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 INCREDIBLE . Looking forward to more. Where do you find references for wiring and hoses?
eizzle Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I almost fell over when I saw that kit, then I did when I saw the price tag! Yours is looking beautiful, I love the carbon fiber!
Mooneyzs Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I almost fell over when I saw that kit, then I did when I saw the price tag! Yours is looking beautiful, I love the carbon fiber! Do I dare ask how much the kit is??
eizzle Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I saw it listed on the tamiya site for around $600... I don't know what retail is going for, I haven't seen any for sale myself.
Mooneyzs Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I saw it listed on the tamiya site for around $600... I don't know what retail is going for, I haven't seen any for sale myself. Holy Smokes... I needed to pick my jaw up off the ground.
Geordi08 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Flawless as usual. If this is going to be half as good as the FXX it should be amazing. Add on the larger scale and who knows, Ferrari may come calling for a new engineer. I went back and looked at the FXX kit you completed, which btw is sitting on my shelf screaming at me to attempt start, and i noticed that the carbon fiber is much more black in color on the FXX. Is the Enzo kits carbon fiber grayer than the FXX or is the pictures? Robert
eizzle Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 (edited) Holy Smokes... I needed to pick my jaw up off the ground. I just saw it on hobbylinc.com it was around $475... Edited August 31, 2012 by eizzle
Ghostmech Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 David....this may be a stupid question but what brand of cigarette did you get that heat shield material from?
David Thibodeau Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 The heat shield is stuff I had laying around in sheets. Not from the packs themselves... The CF on this one is true colore CF where the CF on my FXX SMS kit was overlays you laid over black paint so yes it was darker. Thanks guys... I am moving along on this one... Front end is started on the monocoque... All of this will not be seen once the luggage tub is installed.. Yu could go nuts in this compartment! Speaking of the luggage compartment, I covered it in embossing black powder.. Looks more realistic to me than paint. And with the compartment installed. Then the front suspension was installed.... Some reg CF weave applied Rear CF applied With the front clip added more soon!!
Prostreet Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Amazing work Dave, that carbon work looks perfect.
Pete J. Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Wow David - You hear that rattling noise in the back ground??? That is my mind being boggled! I have to call Matthew and get a set of these! I don't care what he is charging. Pete
Ghostmech Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 David...does the SMS CF set have all the CF for the monocoque, brake ducts and other items or is just for the outside body panels?
David Thibodeau Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 Just the outside panels..I am making my own for the rest of the car.... Time consuming but worth it! Thanks!!! More done....the beloved Powerplant is in for good.... lots to do but a big hurdled accomplished!
David Thibodeau Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 Thanks boys... still plugging away on this... Dash is done and installed. Lots of 1/12 plain weave and alot of future!!! Also got the interior tub underway.... again, lots of templates and plain weave followed by future Next up is the seats so I can get the tube in place!
comp1839 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 HOLY carbon fiber, batman! davey, again you're work just amazes me. how you manage to make everything so super clean is just a verification, of the justification to the testafication of your skills.......can i get an amen, brother!! awesome work dude!!
