Mr. Metallic Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Awhile back I seem to remember someone saying that Alclad was available in a spray can. I don't have a dedicated airbrush setup (yet) so constantly breaking it out just to shoot a couple chrome parts is a pain, so i suaully don't bother. I like using the stuff, and it gives great results. So, does it actually come in spray cans? Is there a source online? If not can someone buy it locally and ship it to me(I would cover the expenses, of course). It just seems like it's an urban legend, since nobody i know has ever seen it or can find it.
Steve H. Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Sure seems like an Urban Legend, doesn't it? Same as you, I've never seen it in the stores nor know of anyone thats used it! There is something available on-line, just not sure exactly what it is, since the listing is somewhat vaugue... Alclad spray

There is something available on-line, just not sure exactly what it is, since the listing is somewhat vaugue... Alclad spray This is Alclad Chrome spray for Lexan R/C car bodies. It must be backed with a black paint to get the chrome effect. Not sure how it works on plastic. Spaz Stix makes their Mirror Chrome in a spray can too. Not sure how their spray works, but I prefer their airbrush product over Alclad as you can apply it over Tamiya TS Gloss Black rattle can paint. Go to www.spazstix.com for more information.
Ron Hamilton Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I have some. The black undercoat must be perfect for it to work.

It is real but don't use the Lexan stuff for plastic. It comes out dull. I have not seen it lately though.
Howard Cohen Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I got a can at Toledo a couple of years ago. I followed the instructions I was given, painted a black base and then the Alclad over it. The finish was not as bright as I expected. I was told after that the can pressure may not be optimum for spraying chrome. I get the same finish from a can of generic spray chrome from my local car parts store.
