I was trying to work with a couple of companies to develop this for us modelers.

So far, it's a no go

But, I did find Delicious Library for the Mac, which will let me scan in the bar codes, and it does find most of the kits, through a Google/Amazon search.

it's not perfect, but it is the only one so far that does what I want it to, somewhat.

For those unfortunate few who still use a PC, can't help you there.

I have worked on the MySQL behind IntelliScanner's software, but that's a story for another day.

Sounds like it would be a good smart phone app. That way you would always have it handy at the hobby shop, vender table etc.

I made an Excel spread sheet for my paints after I found myself with 15 bottles of flat black. A little duplication isn't bad, but paint isn't cheap and I thought that was a bit excessive. It works fine shopping on line, but I don't have it when shopping at a hobby shop.

That is a great idea to be able to check your stock on a smart phone. I know what you mean when it comes to multiples of paints.

Filemaker would be cool too, you could include a photo with each record an also host the db on the web quite easily if desired. Not free, but easy to create cool databases.
