Dr. Cranky Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Well, it's out, and I had ordered 4 from Model Round Up, and then found 2 more at my LHS. Something tells me this kit is going to build up into a sweet model. So I've got two already in the soapy bath, and tomorrow I start planning what will happen to them. In the mean time (and as a way to get riled up), I would like to invite everyone who is interested into posting real 50 Olds eye candy, or if you've already built yours, feel free to share pictures of it here. I know these first couple I build are going to be box stock and mild, just to learn my way around the kit, but eventually I would like to build a low rider and maybe even a smooth custom . . . Ideas, ideas, ideas . . . here we go.

Ramfins59 Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Here are a couple of pics that I found interesting...
W-409 Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Since Jeff Already posted some Vintage Drag Race style Oldsmobiles, I will post another kind of Drag car. Custom would be cool too, is anyone making conversion kit for this kind of build, it's actually '48 but still looks great. It's built originally in Finland, I guess it was late 70's or early 80's.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 I really like the smooth look on this one, but like the Hudson, this one has quite a bit of trim on it that will need to be removed.
thatz4u Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Doc, I'm kit bashing mine with the AMT 51 Chevy Crusin' USA, for starters, maybe a 455 from a 442 kit just for fun...
Dr. Cranky Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 Al, that sounds pretty interesting. I can wait to see it.
charlie8575 Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Rep-stock in two-tone blue or maroon. As the only available interior (gray) looks funny with most of the beige/brown/cream/yellow/green combos. I'm looking forward to Tom' Coolidge's Holiday and the possibility of a fastback from someone. Anyone for trying to make a wagon like Jeff showed? Or perhaps a 4-door sedan or standard-roof two-door sedan? Charlie Larkin
MachinistMark Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 LOVE the polynesian. one of the most gorgeous customs ever.
Car Crazy 81 Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Heres one that Gas Monkey Garage built on their show "Fast N Loud". I bet Dr.Cranky would like this piece of eye candy.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 I sure do. I am gearing up to building a rusty daily driver of sorts.
Jantrix Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 (edited) Like most of my models it will patiently sit on my shelf until the eureka moment. I love early 50's GM's so it's a no brainer that I'll get one but no plans yet. EDIT- Just checked my LHS and they are in stock. Heading there tomorrow. Edited October 6, 2012 by Jantrix
crazyjim Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 The local Hobby Lobby has a spot for the kit on the shelves but it was empty today. Maybe next month.
Foxer Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 (edited) And the truly beautiful Polynesian. photo credits: Rik Hoving This could be the eureka! for me. It would have to be lowered more for sure though. I even have some of those Packard tail lights somewhere. edit: I've seen the tail lights are completely custom. Still, '54 Packards would look good on this .. like the photos Ace-Garageguy posted on the first page. Edited October 6, 2012 by Foxer
Joker Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 When and if ... Doc ..I'll be cutting the top off one and add the 50 Ford Carson top. Still need to get one or three ....on my bench. Another car I drool over is Billy Gibbons(ZZ Top) Kopperhead 3 window. and I would like to do a 3 window using the Olds. Joker
Jantrix Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 I figure a fastback will be cranked out by one of the resin casters pretty quick. I may wait for that.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 7, 2012 Author Posted October 7, 2012 Here's another beauty: I figure a fastback will be cranked out by one of the resin casters pretty quick. I may wait for that. That would be sweet!
