atomicholiday Posted February 25, 2024 Posted February 25, 2024 Picked these up today. I was pretty excited to find the river rat kit still sealed. I built that one as a kid. Too bad the box is rough. 5

If you unseal the kit you can always use a steam iron on the box to bring it back to shape. I've done it a bunch of times.. Edited February 26, 2024 by A modeler named mike Replaced a photo 4
OldNYJim Posted February 25, 2024 Posted February 25, 2024 Atlantis had a 20% off sale last weekend, so I took the opportunity to grab some kits I was missing from my collection… And this one only barely fit in the photo booth… I’ve got all their 1:24 / 1:25 kits that they’ve issued to date now…just need to actually build them ?. NOTE: I got the Boss Fink kit because as best I can tell it’s basically the Roth Tweedy Pie minus the wheels and tires but with a big Ed Roth, and I want to build a ‘conventional’ Tweedy Pie replica… 4

Ace-Garageguy Posted February 25, 2024 Posted February 25, 2024 Just some old vintage cast metal "Buick brake drums" by Herb Deeks. Mounted back-to-back in pairs, they'll make believable wheel-motors for an upcoming fantasy hybrid project. 1
Spottedlaurel Posted February 25, 2024 Posted February 25, 2024 Rare to find car kits at the local toy and train fairs here, but I found this today at one I went to and couldn't resist at £18. 4

CA Whitecloud Posted February 26, 2024 Posted February 26, 2024 (edited) I got new wheels and tires from Jay's Resin for my Moebius '64 Nova . Never used AM wheels. I'll be reaching out for paint options and fitting. They look bigger than kit wheels. Edited February 26, 2024 by CA Whitecloud 2

My first thought was "please don't be priced stupid high". My second thought was of Carl. I'm in no rush to build it. I just want to enjoy it as it is for a while. I will probably crack the seal, since the box is rough anyway. Then once I'm tired of looking at the box, this bad boy is getting built!

I just read in a forum that one person used an iron to put the box back into shape. I have some Monogram kits that the boxes are crinkled from age. So I'm going to try it. First with out the steam and then with the steam to see how it works. Edited February 27, 2024 by ewetwo

I use this method to bring back the shape and stiffen the box as it was originally. I've taken some boxes completely apart when they're in really rough shape. If you have a two piece box keep in mind when reassembling the two halves that the lid will fit properly and slide over the bottom half. If you're not disassembling the box and it's only lightly crushed/dented I always use a block of wood on the inside of the box that's being ironed to give it some support. Knock on wood.. I haven't screwed up a box yet. Here's a photo of one of my worse cases. It's far from perfect but it's better than when I purchased the crushed box with its complete contents . I'm still on the hunt for a replacement box in better condition. The other is in photos above and in a post I did awhile back on box repairs. Good luck and I hope this helps you.. 1
Sledsel Posted February 26, 2024 Posted February 26, 2024 (edited) a few years ago I was looking thru Ebay listings and found a 66 Mustang and 66 Galaxie kit for a cheap starting bid. There was one pic with the listing showing 2 partial builds in a box and all you saw was the tops (hood, roof, trunk) that's it. I put in a bid upon noticing it was not a 66 Galaxie, it was a 68. My opening bid won and I received 2 fairly complete kits. Galaxie was all there, light gluing and no paint on anything but the custom seats were in it and stock seats/console was not included. I started a build and put it away for lack of seats. Low-and-behold I was looking at ebay last week and found a set of 1969 Galaxie seats. Looked at my 69 kit and they are molded in... Hmmmmm, well, needless to say, the seller listed '68 seats as '69's and had a low "buy it now" I got them!!!!!!! . And I found this at a flea market this weekend Edited February 26, 2024 by Sledsel 6
PierreR89 Posted February 26, 2024 Posted February 26, 2024 (edited) Got these truck cabs today from global scale modeltrucks. A Mack b81 with the cummins/v8 grille and a Brockway 361 since i waited to long to order from aitm. I think the quality of the printing is good and there is not much cleaning to do on them. They also have the diamondplating on the bumpers and step on the hood(brockway)The Mack has a hood that can open and the Brockway needs some modifying to get the hood to open like the real trucks, i belive aitm also had to be modified to open. Tried bidding online on the odd started example without success, they went for more than I paid for this one. If I can find some suitable wheels and hub caps I'd like to build it as a loose replica of this one owned by my grandparents back in the '70s: 1

oldcarfan Posted February 27, 2024 Posted February 27, 2024 I ordered these off Amazon as cargo for various builds. I ordered two sets, one in orange and the other in black and they shipped from China in about two weeks. They are actually sized for a larger scale I think, but they should work well enough. They are designed to be used for radio controlled jeeps and such and are actually hinged so you could fill them with tiny stuff. The medium, boxes are sized about like a Yeti cooler in 1/24th. 1

ewetwo Posted February 27, 2024 Posted February 27, 2024 Picked this stuff up today. Galaxy must be old because it’s 2 metal axels and the plastic body is white. Not red or green plastic. The truck has had some stuff started but done well. They came as a package deal so I don’t know about the truck. 1
