Some might say that "mediocre" is being kind!😀

I looked at this the other day in the store. Is this the badly retooled kit or is it an old promo based reissue?

Yes, all same mediocre kit

Can that be said for most AMT kits? Is there some tribal knowledge or rule of thumb when it comes to middle of the road model brands (Revell...), or does it really depend on the specific kit? I'm not really buying to collect, but when searching for a new purchase I would pay more if I knew it was a more interesting/detailed kit to build. Not accounting for my particular skill level, of course.

Biggest issue for me is the glue on hardtop

The body is kinda sorta supposed to be a convertible.

But has wrong windshield frame and no convertible interior pieces

It’s best to check scalemates for a specific model to check the original release/tooling.  AMT/Revell do have some great kits, and a lot of bad kits.  Round2 love to repop old tooling so scalemates is your friend.

When the info is correct, which is not always.

It's nice to look at all the pretty pictures of the box are but the info isn't always right. I've seen some pretty big mistakes on that site.

The above book is one of the best sources for release dates of kits to show age. If you think your going to get modern quality from the last 20 to 30 years out of a 40 to 60 year old tool think again. These were not made to be nothing more than a Promo at the start.

No.  Not even close.

66-67 Chevelle roof is more rounded.

I bought a resin '67 Chevelle two-door body a couple of years ago since I like the body style. Unfortunately, there was no box and the caster was unknown. I would check all of the resin casters web sites to see what is out there. Mine was done in a white resin that would rival any plastic kit from Revell or round 2. I used a Revell '67 Chevelle SS396 kit for the grill, taillights and interior.

This site is proving to be smarter than me. I've done some looking around but I'm having issue with the search function. Am I missing something?

just search aoshima countach and you should get some answers. scalemates doesn't really search specific kits well but if you generalise the search a bit you get more results.
