Carmak Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Found some very cool survivor builds from the mid 60's. Two of the builds are custom built AWB cars. The 67 Charger is the MPC Color Me Gone. 6

ea0863 Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 (edited) I happened on the Tamiya site and saw their 1:24 scale slot car m body parts set for $5.00! I wasn't even sure what the "M" body represented, but I ordered four on the spot https://www.tamiyausa.com/shop/124-sports-car-accesories/slot-car-m-body-parts-set/ A little bit of digging later, and it turns out Tamiya was calling these slot bodies by code letters - probably to avoid paying for the names. The codes would seem to refer to the following: #25116 "F" body is the Ferrari 330P2 #25117 "L" body is the Lotus 40 #25118 "K" body is referred to as the Shelby "King Cobra", but is in fact its cousin the DeTomaso P70 designed by Peter Brock (albeit with rear wheels exposed ala the DeTomaso 5000 Sport). #25119 appears to be unrelated to slot car bodies. #25120 "LO" body is the Lotus 30 #25121 "LT" body is the Lola T70 #25122 is the McLaren Elva which I purchased #25123 "P" body is the Porsche 906 Edited December 9, 2023 by ea0863 4

Modlbldr Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Went to a small model show this morning. Ony about 10 people entered but we had 75 models entered. A few guys brought kits to sell. I walked away with these kits (All complete and sealed or sealed inside) for $68 and a second place for my 67 Impala lowrider. Nice day! Later- 4

The "M" is the only one at $5.00. But I did order that one.

Some listings are also for original runs, while others are for recent repops, so that makes a difference in price too. But, any way you cut it, you can't go wrong at $5 for the McLaren.

Spottedlaurel Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Technically I won't have this one until the 25th, but I got a sneaky glimpse when it arrived at work today before being whisked away when I got home.... I have a couple of examples of Tamiya's T-top version (original plus recent reissue), but I was lucky to successfully bid on this fixed-head model. Came with the motor and a separate sheet translating the instructions into French. I wonder if this one came first, then they modified the tool to create the T-top? The latter was released later (and recently reissued), as was the Pace Car version which also had the removable panes. I am not aware of the fixed-head ever having been reissued. This fixed-head 2-seater might be good for a more performance-oriented build, perhaps even enjoying an engine transpant as it has an opening bonnet (then I can use the top part of the ZX's engine in a special Datsun project I have in mind). 1

I have one of those somewhere and didn't know Tamiya made one as well.
oldcarfan Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 My load from a trip to Dallas and a visit to Wild Bill's Hobbytown in Arlington and in Dallas. They are gradually selling off all the old Wild Bill's stock, but someone told me they are now buying up collections to add to the stores. I guess I was in an Italian mood! Also bought some Plastruct and some Gundam decals to add to the collection. 4
A modeler named mike Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 From over the last week or so.. All open all complete. The BZ-38 was an inspired buy when I saw Pat W's nifty Miniart Liefer pritschenwagen typ 170V farmers car kit. The BZ-38 is highly detailed, has photo etching and a very detailed instruction booklet...? for a 1/32 kit the box is huge. 2

Both are old kits, the difference in scale between them is very noticeable but I don't know if it's that the Tamiya is a bit big or the AMT is on the small side. Tamiya was intended to be motorized so has a metal rod back axle, also the engine detail is top half only with sump/gearbox detail moulded into the floorpan, whereas the AMT has more detailed suspension and a full engine/transmission. Tamiya has separate wipers front and rear, on the AMT they're moulded-in and a bit delicate. Tamiya has nicer OE wheels, but the AMT has an accessory set of mesh wheels and bigger tires (albeit the wheels are 5-stud). Given that I'd probably change them that doesn't bother me. AMT is LHD, Tamiya RHD. With a bit of care and attention I think both will build-up to give a decent appearance, I've certainly got plans for each of them. And both are far better than Fujimi's attempt at a 280ZX - I have one of them too, but luckily my plans for that one don't require much more than the top half of the bodyshell...

Engine 51 Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 Finally found one of these GMC cabs. This is going to become a fire truck from my boyhood days. Just need to find a good chassis/engine donor. 2
