Olskoolrodder Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Picked up some paint and the October issue of this here forum's host magazine (full of Hudsons! ),and these at Hobbytown today...
Chuck Most Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I stopped at the Hobby Lobby in Champaign IL while I out Christmas shopping, picked up an AMT '62 Electra (30% off), a WW2 Maisto 1/24 Harley, and Flex-I-File kit (40% off coupon). I also it Slot & Wing Hobbies, which si the only real hobby shop in my area. Not much in their scratch and dent area, but i did get the currect release of the AMT '50 Chevy pickup and Revell '57 Bel Air sedan. Howver, while I was there, I noticed a stack of 4 older kits on the counter. Wasn't sure if they were for sake or not, so as i was leaving, i asked. they said that they were bought froma fellow who was moving, and that they had also got a bunch of train stuff from him, too. After a little looking for rough pricing, we came up with $75 (plus tax) for the whole lot. So I also came home with a 4 '70s vintage kits, a Monogram '41 Lincoln continental, a JoHan '31 Cadillac Cabriolet, and 2 MPC Connoissuer Classics, the '32 LeBaron Chrysler Imperial, and a 1914 Stutz Bearcat, all in the original boxes and complete, other than the Caddy missing the instruction sheet. Score! I've built all of those '70's kits (as well as the '50 Chevy 3100 and Electra), and they're beauties when done up right.
LAone Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 nice! im part of the model scientist group. not affliliated with the sale dept though..lols how do you like them?
sweptline64 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 well I ran to wal-mart today to get some home supplies and found this sitting in the parking lot(I almost ran it over). so when I got home I imediatly tore it apart to scavenge off of it what I wanted or needed for some of my other builds and this is what I kept. now this is what I have left that I don't want and it's going in the swap section.
Nick Winter Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Grabbed a few things on my way home from a friends, had to stop and get them to replace my oil filter socket (2.2 Ecto-tech), atleast it has a lifetime warranty. Nick
Roadkill2525 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 (edited) Picked these up for $15 each, some 1/43 Marsh Model kits. Jim Hall's Chaparral 2c from the 1965 Nassau race Team Surtees Lola T70, can be done as Graham Hill's #3 or John Surtees' #7 from the 1966 Can-Am season Edited December 4, 2011 by Roadkill2525
Tonioseven Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 (edited) nice! im part of the model scientist group. not affliliated with the sale dept though..lols how do you like them? I LOVE the wheels but two of the tires leave something to be desired. two of them are not exactly of the greatest quality but I'll make them work. I think I'm going to start casting my own stuff just for personal use. I'll probably convert them to 4-lug depending on what I use them on. They ARE nice wheels though~! I just need a few really GOOD sets of the tires for some wheels I already have. Edited December 4, 2011 by Tonioseven
Casey Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I attended Model Empire's open house today, and as usual, came home with a big bag of goodies. Parts, decals, tires, and even some complete, sealed kits for $1.00 (I won't mention they are 1/32 scale Entex Jeep kits ). I found some 1/16 Aurora Funny Car slicks and wheels, as well as some other 1/16, 1/20 and maybe 1/12 scale tires, some fantastic 5-slot wheels in 1/16 scale, and a very nice Nitro Yellow Green '95 Dodge Neon Sport Sedan promo for $4.00. Altogether, some nice parts for my stash, some nice stuff to trade, and some parts to give away. If you ever find yourself in the Milwaukee area the first week of December, make sure you make it to Model Empire in West Allis, WI by noon.
h3ae86 Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I got a new job. I went in for orientation today and thought I'd go insane watching all those videos and filling out paper work I'm hoping my first day of training tomorrow is better. I just hope I can handle the 12hr days on my feet. Man am I nervous.
crazyjim Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Congratulations, Harold. Take 3, deep breaths and relax.
B-dub Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 dunno If I did a good or bad thing here.... Iwata eclipse siphon feed 3 cups small and large containers of cleaner quick disconnect moisture trap 110 psi 3gallon air compressor with regulator and random accessories... all for about $200
Dr. Cranky Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Bobby, I think that set up should see you through lots of fun painting, just make sure you put a moisture trap on that compressor or on the hose if they didn't come with one. Happy painting!
B-dub Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 yeah I picked up the iwata moisture trap about to set up everything and make sure I have the right fittings to hook it to the compressor, then I guess I'll take our advice and just practice playing with the trigger for awhile.
Junkman Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 And a massive THANK YOU goes to Kevin, for an excellent service!
sweptline64 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Well I got a Job today doing something I love aside from building models and thats working on 1:1 cars. Me and my landlord are opening a mechanics shop right here on the property where we both live. I'll be using his tools (as I lost all of mine Loong story and don't want to go into it). His shop. But I'm going to be the lead mechanic and get paid good. So I'm happy it's been a long time coming and glad it's time has come. I start tomorrow doing an engine swap on a 59 chevy apache stepside.
Rob McKee Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 dunno If I did a good or bad thing here.... Iwata eclipse siphon feed 3 cups small and large containers of cleaner quick disconnect moisture trap 110 psi 3gallon air compressor with regulator and random accessories... all for about $200 I think you got a really good deal. That airbrush is a star, I just love mine. Is the compressor noisy? I had one similar to that before and it would wake the dead when it went off. Rob
