niteowl7710 Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Ya know guys they sell a 30mL refill thing for those Molotow Liquid Chrome markers, you don't have to buy a new marker every time it runs out of ink.

crazyjim Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Now there's an idea - shoot it through an airbrush.
niteowl7710 Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Just be aware it's an alcohol based INK, not actual paint. Basically the liquid version of how Cartograf and others do the "Hot Foil" metal decal printing.
niteowl7710 Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 So what does that mean? That means clean up would be different, you would need an alcohol soluble thinner/cleaner. Maybe 91% alcohol would cut it. I'd hate to see someone gum up their A/B rig, or ruin the rubber O rings.
crazyjim Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Whoa! So much for shooting it through an airbrush. Thanks for the info, James.
niteowl7710 Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Here's a video of the ArtPrimo guys playing with it. My take away is that it's thicker than paint - being an ink. You'd need something to thin it that wouldn't destroy the "chromeness" of it. Being alcohol based it dries very quickly, and unless you could inhibit the evaporation somehow I think you'd just effectively chrome coat the inside of your A/B. If you could, you'd still have to tear down the rig quickly before things could dry out. Being an ink, it's supposed to be permanent.
crazyjim Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Now I'm getting anxious for my order to arrive.
Bernard Kron Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Santa put this under the tree: Rodder's Journal bound Collector's Edition Volume II: Issues 5-8. I started buying it on newsstands around Issue 9 so this probably puts me close to a full set since Santa already got me Volume I of the bound collector's editions several years ago. I guess I'll have to go back and check what might be missing. I finally stopped buying it on the newsstands around 15 years ago and subscribed. Some years Santa get's me a renewal.... This year was an even bigger treat! Ton's of cool stuff including things like the discovery (issue 5) and eventual restoration (issue 8) of the original Hirohota Merc, the introduction of the Brookeville Deuce Roadster (issue 8) (in bare metal, natch), the Albertson Olds digger, Stones, Woods & Cook Swindler A restored, etc., etc. etc. The graphics have changed a lot over the years. Lots of bright colors, wild typesetting and page layout hijinks, Photoshop trick effects, special paper inserts and a gatefold in every issue. The mag is far more conservative today. The cars, too, look different with more of a post-billet late 90's vibe than the purist retro approach they have today.

Snake45 Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 1966 issue MPC '56/'57 CorvetteSweet! Did you get one complete with box, instructions, and all the optional parts? That kit's a real blast from the past. Back in the day, it was right up there with the best of the AMT Trophy series. If the molds are in good shape, it would be a welcome reissue to this day.

But a tire did melt into one of headrest. Not too bad, though.

Mike999 Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 Santa was late bringing my package from Japan. Putin fired air-to-ground missiles at his sleigh and he had to take evasive action...Anyway, from Tokyo-Hobby on eBay: got the old AOSHIMA 1/24 Subaru Sambar "Post Office Van." These old Sambar kits have no engine/chassis detail (formerly motorized). But the bodies look great, all lights are separate, and these goofy little "kei" vans are just plain neat. This kit comes with some great accessories - roof rack, surfboard and SCUBA gear. Plus a stereo and TV set for the interior. Also got the EBBRO 1/24 Citroen H Van, the corrugated wonder. Recently caught an episode of "Wheeler Dealers" where they restored one of these and converted it into a Roach Coach. If you've never dealt with Tokyo-Hobby, I've ordered from them on eBay several times with no problems.
