Shelby 427 1965 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Hi everyone! This is my current project. I'm working on a nice, mostly stock Nissan. I'm not overly into what most people tend to do to these things. I've borrowed the wheels off a rally car of some description and painted them gun metal, played with the suspension to give it a bit of camber at the front, and made an exhaust from a McDonalds straw. Paint shall begin after the weekend! I'll paint those wheelnuts and give it a wash when I get a chance. The colour she's gonna be. Thanks for looking! - Tomo
Vrschoof Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 hmm i would make it an amateur drifter at least give it a nice lowering just because a friend of mine had an chalk orange w. black roof one haha nice car and pretty clean so far keep it up
Shelby 427 1965 Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 Oh that's as low as it's going to go mate! Function over form.
Custom Mike Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I can't wait to see that color on it Tomo, it should look great! I love the McDonald's straw exhaust too, great use of whatever you can find!
ll Brandon ll Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I will be following this one. Love the look of the interior.
Shelby 427 1965 Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 Thank everyone I have a question to ask. This purple paint, I sprayed it and it looks rather.. bright. Too bright. I'll be using grey primer.. but will I need to maybe have a black base coat? This is the look I'm going for: Thanks
Custom Mike Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 A black base coat will definitely darken the final color, try it out on a plastic spoon or some scrap you've got laying around first though!
LAone Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Looking good so far. I love the color choice. As for you color base question, yes you should use a black base to darken up that purple. Test it out on some plastic spoons first.
Shelby 427 1965 Posted January 9, 2013 Author Posted January 9, 2013 Did a bit of work on this. Primed it today, did some work on the interior. Made an iPod and a lead for it to the radio. Tomorrow, black base coat. Cheers!
lanesteele240 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 i love the ipod. but you should upgrade to the ipod touch. great work. cant wait to see the paint
Shelby 427 1965 Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 Cheers! And no thanks haha, I'm happy enough with my iPod classic and iPhone tag team. Sprayed the body today. It was NOT Midnight Purple. It was a weird silvery grey. Not cool. Some stern words with the automotive store will be had. I don't know whether to leave it the silvery colour or try something else.
ll Brandon ll Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 You could maybe leave it as a base and spray on a candy or clear purple?
Shelby 427 1965 Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 @Brandon: Nah I just left it as it is. It turned ever-so-slightly more purple after lacquering. I decided sod it, I got a good smooth finish off it so I left it the weird colour. Midnight Purple, it is NOT. Last time I ever go there anyway.
LAone Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Paint came out great, not the color intended but still great
Shelby 427 1965 Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 Thanks guys... The colour has grown on me, a LITTLE. Still so disappointed it's not Midnight Purple though. I finished it there now. The outdoor pics tomorrow will really do it justice though! Thanks for looking. The side markers have been fixed since those pics were taken
lanesteele240 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 smoooooooth as glassssss. great build. cant wait to see whats next
jrherald420 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Looks good, color looks fine too. My biggest issue with it is the front wheels, with only the front wheels negitive cambered in it looks weird. If the fronts are going to be like that the rears need to be a little bit also.
