Mr. Metallic Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 This is AMT's The Fast and The Furious Tokyo Drift Nissan 350Z. It is built box stock except for the big diameter centerline wheels. I chose these wheels over the objections of many. I was just trying to go for a clean, race inspired look, so I went with my gut. I'm happy with it. Here are a couple build tips for anyone attempting this build. First, AMT does give positive gluing surfaces for the front and rear body parts. Do yourself a favor and attach these permenantly before you start painting. They require a little pressure to stay together while gluing with a clothespin which is fine, but trying to do this without damaging the paint is nearly impossible. You may need to modify the mounting tabs where the body meets the frame, but that is about a 10 second job. All the other parts in the kit fit very well with almost no modification. Be careful with your sequence when installing the rear suspension/axle/exhaust. the directions are not clear, and many parts snake through eachother. No indication on where to paint the black window trim is given, so make your best guess(I didn't bother with it). I did however leave off the turbo setup, it didnt allow the body to meet the inner fenderwells, and really couldn't be seen anyway. http://public.fotki.com/crstan/finished_mo..._me/350z-tuner/
Peter Lombardo Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Thanks for the heads up on the building quirks. I would never have looked at this kit, but seeing yours, I think I will give it a try. Nice build, very clean, I remember you were not sure about the wheel choice on an earlier post. You did the right thing by going with your gut feelings. They look good, and you did it your way which is best way to handle that. Very nice, I like the yellow paint....simple but effective.
novadose71 Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Cool. I agree with your choice of wheels and I don't think you are gonna see another 350Z with them on, unless someone see's how good they look on yours.
Matt T. Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Nice one, Craig! The wheels look terrific. Well done!
cruz Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Very nice and the wheel choice is not bad, I did one of these in black using one of the 3 rim choices out of the revell Acura and inserting them in Pegasus sleeves, I thought the wheels that came with the kit were too big, nice job.........
Steve H. Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Nice build, the wheel choice works well and makes it uniquely "Yours"! I've seen a number of these built and they look like they go together well, but I'm always reminded of a "Transformers" robot!
mademan Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 very nice , clean build. you mentioned that you left the turbo off, is there any chance I could trade you a part that you are in need of , for your turbo? U have been searching endlessley for a turbo or 2, for a project and have come up with nothing. if you want to make a deal, please pm me. thanks Mike
