Tom Geiger Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 The Renwal Visible V8 and chassis were sold in the Sears Christmas catalog, the "Wish Book". As an army brat often out of the USA, we lived by that catalog. As a youngster, I had visions of having both, putting them together and believing the catalog text hype, that I could drive it around! I even fantasized about the body I'd make for it. Of course none of that ever happened!I asked for them for Christmas and like most kids, only got the V8. My father and I put it together and it worked. I can still hear that little motor screaming. I believe few of the chassis were sold because they were expensive, thus why they are rare and expensive today.
unclescott58 Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I looked at buying one of these at Hobby Lobby a week or two ago. Had a 40% off coupon. With all of the old electrical parts missing, I just could not justify the price of kit. Even at 40% off. Sad. Building the original Renwall version with the electric starter/motor and the light up spark plugs is still one of my favorite childhood memories. I got my first one for Christmas 1971. The hand crank and non lighting spark plugs on the Revell boxed versions is just not the same.
