Grumpa
I was asked by a good friend to build a replica of his '64 Chevelle Malibu to present to his daughter as a Christmas gift this past Christmas. He and his daughter had spent a couple of years working on the car together and he wanted her to have a model of it. In making some inquiries as to what her "likes and dislikes" were, he stated that she loves the beach, likes "Coke" and "Doritos". So since these items are available to the modeler it was easy to incorporate them into a little diorama. I wanted to do something special as opposed to just a model displayed in a plastic case. Any of the 1/25th or 1/18th display cases work well for this sort of thing, and they can be covered to keep out dust. This was built to fit a 1/18th case. I posted some photos in "Under Glass" of the 1:1 car, and the model as it was being built. The materials used for the beach were from Woodland Scenics for the gravel. All of the little details came from Jeff at Flatheads Garage. I'm not sure what has become of him. He used to sell on Ebay, but I haven't seen him in a year or so. The sand (sifted three times), driftwood, and shells (the largest being a scale 4") came from Oak Island, North Carolina. My favorite place! As I have had some problems with downloading photos from Photobucket. I have loaded these from my files. Hope they turn out OK!
Eshaver
Jim, some of the best diorama pieces I have seen actually come from scavenging the yard, woods and of course a beach. Looks great !
