martinfan5 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Wow, and you suck at painting bodys, great job so far
epi4561 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 that engine looks awesome. I've NEVER been able to get that good of results from Alclad. If you say you suck at painting bodies, then that's the only thing, because everything else looks fantastic. KUTGW.
DrKerry Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 I'll be watching this, looking great so far!!!
Davewilly Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Very nice work! I will be waiting to see some more! ( not that I matter really...but just saying!)
Mike Kucaba Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Are you building both scale F-40's ? The work you've done so far looks great! I take it will be yellow? This would be a hard car to paint with a metallic or candy color and have a good match. Keep at it and if you do Alclad that well painting bodies should be good.

I have the road version with a hobby design pe set and a 1/16 fujimi version of the competizione in Totip livery. Trying to track down a photo ech set for that This one will be yellow and white with the Shell decals Edited December 21, 2013 by Quick GMC
Mike Kucaba Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Monte Shell DOH!! Of course it's yellow! Acu-Stion has PE Set in 1/16th. It's pretty basic. I got mine at HLJ.
The70judgeman Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 That is some outstanding detailing Cameron! Very impressive work!
brandolsx Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Looks great so far! Keep p the good work!
Shelby 427 1965 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Looks amazing! Careful on this kit, there's a well known and common fitment issue with the rear hatch. Doesn't line up properly!
Quick GMC Posted December 30, 2013 Author Posted December 30, 2013 Looks amazing! Careful on this kit, there's a well known and common fitment issue with the rear hatch. Doesn't line up properly! Thanks for the heads up. I think I have it worked out. We'll see after paint though.
Quick GMC Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 Some progress on this finally. I have moved my bench and rearranged my room two times since I last worked on this. I started the decals. I would say about 3/4 of the way done with those. I have an 8 month old, so it is hard to find time for building anything recently. I did get the rear hatch to fit pretty well, but in the sanding and polishing stage, I broke the A Pillars. I still have to finish the decals, assemble the glass and attach all the remaining PE pieces.
jrherald420 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Major bummer about the pillars. I can say ive done that several times polishing, cant say many survived after that. Still looks great! Hope the damage can be repaired.
Chillyb1 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I'm glad to see that you started in again on this one. I found it to be a frustrating but rewarding build. Here's how mine turned out: Despite the many flaws, it looks pretty good. I'm sure yours will, too. And sorry to hear about the a-pillar incident.
Quick GMC Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 My biggest hurdle that I now realize, is painting the black trim around the windows and the side, now that I have decaled the car. I'm an idiot. Yours turned out nice. I think if I did this car again, I would paint the red instead of using the decals. I am not going to clear over the decals. I have had so much trouble painting in the past, and with this one being so close to done, i don't want to risk it.
Kennyboy Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Hey Cameron, you could use BMF (as a mask) to do the trim around the windows, then just attach post-it note paper to the BMF edge and spray the black with your airbrush. I use it all the time

I use it all the time I might try that. I have some thin paper I can use to block the tamiya tape from sticking to the decals. Thanks.
Matt T. Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Inspiring build! Makes me want to go pull a Tamiya kit and my airbrush and get to it.
