REDNECK7109 Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 OK so I'm building a pick up truck model and I want to put smoke stacks on it witch is the easy part... I want my smoke stacks to actually puff smoke... I love to build model cars/trucks and add all types of electronics to them but this has me puzzled... any one know how I can make this work?
High octane Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Yes, take your model to a good model railroad hobby shop and tell the owner what you'd like to do, and hopefully he'll be able to suggest something. That's what I would do.
slowlylearning Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I once had a toy truck that puffed smoke, I had to put some sort of oil in it. Maybe you could try using those fake cigarettes that emit vapor?
southpier Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 this might work: http://www.gaugemaster.com/seuthe.html finding a place to put them will be the challenge.
REDNECK7109 Posted May 17, 2013 Author Posted May 17, 2013 I thought of using the electronic cigarette vapor but thought against Modding it for this project cause those lithium batteries that are in those things are dangerous... but going to a hobby shop is probably my best option
DrKerry Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 They do it on toy locomotives, not sure how big the device is!!!
Quick GMC Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 take apart one of those electronic ciggarettes and see how they work
REDNECK7109 Posted May 18, 2013 Author Posted May 18, 2013 I called a hobby shop near me and I can buy the smoke generators for $31 a peice . They are perfect size and puff enough smoke to make it look good... just gotta do the wiring to a power supply which is cake
REDNECK7109 Posted May 18, 2013 Author Posted May 18, 2013 There is all different kind of devices but the one that Ineed is about an inch long and a little bit larger round than a pencil
Art Anderson Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 They do it on toy locomotives, not sure how big the device is!!! Seuthe smoke generators are quite small in diameter, and should fit in say, a 5/32" diameter K&S aluminum tube. However, they do put out a fair bit of heat, being basically a small brass reservoir with a thin wire heating element inside, which heats thin oil to make a white smoke. So, there has to be some air flow there in order for the smoke to move freely up and out of the stack. A real drawback might well be the oily residue though. Art
southpier Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 ..... real drawback might well be the oily residue though. this is why the Lionel layout used to get so dirty so fast. one rainy Saturday afternoon and i'd be wiping the whole Plastic-ville town down for weeks!
