I figured that those of who like cars and models might also like bikes and such, so here's a shot of me and my new toy, a KMX Tornado recumbent trike. I had a mild heart attack in late March (spent Easter weekend in the hospital). They put a stent in an artery, and I'm good to go. In cardiac rehab, they put me on a recumbent exercise bike. I realized how comfortable and efficient the recumbent riding position is, and I always thought the recumbent trikes were cool, so I got this baby. It's a blast to ride, and is very comfortable and stable. It has 16" front wheels and a 20" rear wheel with a Nexus 8 speed internal geared hub (an engineering marvel, BTW), front disk brakes with lockable parking feature. The seat and pedal boom are adjustable for all sizes of riders. Since this photo was taken I replaced the single 40 tooth front sprocket with a triple sprocket unit (24-34-42T). The gearing was a little too high for this 63 year old rider on the hills in my town. Trikes aren't cheap, but this one was reasonable as trikes go. Got it from Utah Trikes. I hope you guys like it.

That is SOOOO cool Sam! B) Might have to check 'em out at some point ;)

It's great that you're doing something about keeping up your health after your scare, glad you are OK!

Looks fun but what's it like in traffic?

Fred, I keep it away from traffic, riding only on side streets and alleys here in my town. I watch the rear view mirror and pull over for cars behind me. The flag and flashing taillight help drivers see me. This area of PA has many rural back roads with little traffic.

That is pretty cool, Sam.

I've considered getting a "shop trike" because I've never been able to stay up on a bicycle and would like to not only get a little exercise, but not have to use the car all the time, at least in nice weather, to go run small errands and such.

That makes sense Sam. I'd feel awfully vulnerable down there amongst the hub caps.

About ten years ago I pulled my 1973 Peugeot Tour De France off the garage ceiling and decided to take up riding again. I was surprised at how much traffic had increased in the suburbs of Central New Jersey! I felt like I was going to get run over much of the time. Traffic had either increased, or I hadn't been as aware of it back when I was a 16 year old rider!

Now I'm in PA and there are a bunch of dedicated bike trails so I plan on pulling the old Peugeot out again! Good luck with your trike!
