ratrodder51 Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Does frog tape work as they claim? Does it work better if wetted first? Has anyone tried it . Thx... Woody
SSNJim Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I've never tried it; it's supposed to work as advertised with latex paints only. Upon a review of their website, it says test before use. If you've got some laying around, try it. If not, I wouldn't go out and buy a roll.
Chief Joseph Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 When I paint walls with latex paint, I use green Frog Tape and it works really well with no bleed-under. Model painting is quite different, though. My advice is to skip the green version of Frog Tape and get the "Delicate Surface" yellow version instead. It's virtually the same Kabuki rice-paper tape as Tamiya tape but a lot cheaper per square inch. It's available at Sherwin Williams stores. It cuts very well in a vinyl cutter, too: This was a little test I was doing of the tape's cutting & handling ability. I'm going to make a custom van with dragons and wizards on it some day
ScaleDale Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I like the Yellow Frog tape, too. The best I have found is 3M Automotive Masking tape from Auto Zone. It's tan, not cheap and recommended by Dr. Cranky.Dale
59 Impala Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I used the yellow frog tape to mask off the bumper on this 50 Ford custom. As you can see, there's no bleed thru between the gold and black. Dan
ratrodder51 Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 Thx for the replys. Will look for yellow frog tape. Was hard finding green..maybe this is easer to find. Woody
Tom Geiger Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Dan.. I think we all could use a few more pix of that truck! Very cool.

Chief Joseph Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I noticed in Wal-Mart today they are carrying the yellow Frog Tape in a 60-yard roll, but only in 24mm width. A good deal for less than $6. I need to get me a vinyl cutter. Would be so much cheaper to make my own masks. Yep, they are awesome.

Quick GMC Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I have used the green Frog Tape. It leaves a sticky residue, I wouldn't recommend it for modeling. I have not used the yellow. Tamiya tape is the best I have used so far.
crazyjim Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I bought a roll of the green Frog Tape and decided it was garbage! I tossed the receipt and so I called the Frog people. They sent me a check for the purchase price. Never seen the yellow tape. I believe I'll stick with Tamiya tape for now.
martinfan5 Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I have been using yellow frog tape to supplement my use of tamiya tape, I use tamiya for the lines, and then frog tape to cover the rest of the body.
crazyjim Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 My interest has been perked. Where does one find this yellow Frog tape?
Chief Joseph Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 My interest has been perked. Where does one find this yellow Frog tape? Wal-Mart has the 24mm-wide yellow tape in a 60-yard roll and Sherwin Williams sells three different widths in 50-yard rolls.
