itsclayyoo Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 (edited) I printed some decals on testors clear decal papet with an inkjet printer. It says I have to spray decal bonder on the decals. But I was told I could use clear spray paint. Is this true? Do I even have to spray anything on the decals? Thanks in advance. -Clay Edited July 18, 2013 by itsclayyoo
martinfan5 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Yes you do, if you do not clear coat the ink, it will run when you put it water, I have used Duplicolor clear, and Krylon clear on Testors decals in past
itsclayyoo Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 Ok. Soo I don't have to use that decsl bonder stuff? I can use clear coat as a substitute right?
martinfan5 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Ok. Soo I don't have to use that decsl bonder stuff? I can use clear coat as a substitute right? I have never used Testor's decal bonder, just do light mist coats , and you should be good
Scuderia Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I use papilio decal paper and Testors but the same rings true. I used Rustoleum generic clear on the decal paper to seal it down. No worries.
MAGNUM4342 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Best advice I can give is to use any other decal paper than testor's junk.
Longbox55 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 A bit of advise; Make sure you let the decals dry thoroughly after printing them before you seal them. If the ink hasn't has a chance to set, the clear will make them run.
itsclayyoo Posted July 19, 2013 Author Posted July 19, 2013 They have been drying for 2 days now. Think I'm safe to clear them?
Scuderia Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 They have been drying for 2 days now. Think I'm safe to clear them? Yes you should be okay now.
MAGNUM4342 Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 This really is the best advice given so far Thank you Johnathan, but I should have taken time to explain further. I've made alot of decals over the years in fact I'm on a break from designing some decals right now. Testor's decal paper tends to do one of two things. If it doesn't desintegrate in the water, odds are it will roll up on you before it ever gets to the model. Sadly the only way to avoid this is to bury the paper in heavy coats of clear which in most cases will make it too thick. I do wish good luck on you Clayton. If you are succesfull let us know and post a pic if you can.
Longbox55 Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I never had a problem with it, but have had plenty of problems with so-called "superior" decal papers (BMF mainly). I do admit, I liked Supercal paper better, but can't find it locally anymore.

So I'm guessing the check's not in the mail, either. LOL. Attention everyone: I now have 1/25 scale F-Bomb Camaro decals available. Anyone can have them except my man Clayton here.

If that is the case, I have to retract my earlier offer. Sorry Joseph, didn't know the backstory here.

It's just amazing that you were posting a question here about decals about 15 minutes after I sent you an email reminding you that I had your artwork ready... and then a few days later you replied to my email and said you had forgotten all about them. You are absolutely correct... you are not obligated to buy anything from anyone, and I am not obligated to sell anything to anyone. Case closed.
itsclayyoo Posted July 25, 2013 Author Posted July 25, 2013 And I'm NOT going debate about this anymore. Case closed. But you definitely had no right to be a jerk about the whole situation. When in the first place u are wrong. Wrong for jumping to a conclusion. If u need help... what would u do? Ask for help right? Thought that's what this forum was for. If I wanted drama..I'd watch soap operas..
