Thanks for the kind comments everyone! I appreciate them!

Carl & Rob: Yep, I agree, sometimes these things can be a true mystery. It's not the first one of my models that have had this kind of a problem and I've never figured out why.

Steven: That is true, too. I've clear coated a flat turqouise once before and it turned out really good. I hope this one will turn out as good as that one did.

Chris: I have to agree, it looks pretty good like this. I never thought I would be saying this, but it is really good looking right now. But I think I will clear coat it shiny and I believe it'll look better like that.

Charlie: It's a really nice kit. I bet it looks good if built as a Box Stock, too. The kit is so well detailed from the factory that I think it looks very real without any added details, too. B)

Glenn: Thanks... I'm glad you like it! :)

Dave: That's a good question. Well, I think it makes no difference if I had painted the silver first. For some reason I have always painted the darker color first, even though many people like to paint the lightest color first... But as I said, I think the end result will be the same even if done both ways.

Yesterday I masked the red areas of the body away to be able to paint some silver on the roof. After the paint dried, it looks like it needs a light wetsanding and just a little more silver. But it's not too bad. I also painted the hood from the underside.

Thanks David! I highly appreciate it.

I was finally able to wetsand the top lightly and then I sprayed some more silver paint on it. Now I think it looks pretty good, so I took the tapes off. I'm really happy how it looks and the colors fit perfectly together. Now I'll let it dry properly before clear coating the body.

Sorry the pics are not the best. It's a rainy day and I had to use flash to get enough light. I will take some better ones another day when it's a bit brighter.

Thanks Jeremy, Carl, Richard and Charlie! I appreciate your kind words and I agree that the colors work well together. I've always thought that red & silver is a perfect combo and this one proves it.

Today I headed to the garage and continued the painting process of this Oldsmobile. The hood was painted red and it turned out decent. It needs some minor sanding and a new coat of red though as there is a bit of dust on the paint. It's not too bad though. I also started clear coating the body. As I've had lots of trouble with the body paint, I thought it's better to clear coat very carefully. So today I sprayed a very light coat of clear on the body and so far there are no problems detected. I will spray another coat of clear tomorrow. It will take some time, but hopefully it doesn't end up in paint stripping...

I have also painted some engine bay parts so detailing should continue soon...

Just a small teaser shot of the body as I got it clear coated today. Luckily it looks good at least so far, I will have to look at it again in the morning though. The reason why I'm posting only this one shot is that it's the only one I was able to get on the foggy garage full of paint fumes.

Thanks Guys! I really like the colors too. I've always thought that red and silver fit perfectly together, especially when there's a clear coat on. It is also true that these cars are very nice, just like Chevrolets from the same years. Both are also good starting points for different styles of builds... Stock, Custom, NASCAR, and of course the best... Junior Stock or Gas Coupe Drag Car.

It looks like I will have to shoot another coat of clear on the body. It's not too shiny, which is not a problem but it looks like the clear coat is not thick enough to be polished. Now there would be a too big risk to go through the clear when polishing.

Well, after a short break in the building process, I was sure that my first clear coat was completely dry :D .

Today I took this one out again and shot another coat of clear on the body before going to sand my Bondo work on 1:1 '60 Impala. It turned out pretty smooth and shiny so I'm really happy and it should be a perfect starting point for polishing. The shapes on the body will make the polishing a challenge though. There is a Model Car Contest on January 31st so I hope I can get this one done by then.

Thanks for the comments! I appreciate them.

Jim: Heh, I'd sure love to do that, but that's a bit far away. I think I will have to go to the model car contest in Jyväskylä instead...

Not much, but today I was able to shoot the first coat of clear to the hood. I wanted to go slowly with this as there has been lots of problems during the paint. So I sprayed only a light coat of clear on and I will spray another clear coat tomorrow...Then it should be ready for final polishing.

Next I should get back to work with the engine bay and chassis. Interior is done and engine & chassis need only minor detailing.

For some reason the hood looks like pink in the picture....In reality it seems to be the same shade of red as the body.

That thing is gorgeous. Nice work, nice colors, nice stance. I have this kit although I haven't opened it yet. I plan to build it with the same "personality" as yours although I might do a little more of a "taildragger" stance.

I can't wait to see this with the wheels on it! I love it.
