RandyB. Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) I have always wanted a 1974 Camaro Z28 in my collection but since one was never kitted I thought I would make up my own. Using the long discontinued AMT 1974 Camaro model kit which I bought off of ebay still in the original shrink wrap plus a set of Keith Marks decals as well as an AMT 1970 Camaro Z28 kit I used as a donor kit (used wheels, tires chin spoiler, air cleaner, valve covers and side mirrors from that kit). Rear spoiler was taken from a scrapped MPC 1980 Camaro Z28 as well as the front windshield since the one in the AMT kit was broken......rear window was still okay. I had to grind about 1/8th inch off of the bottom of the front chin spoiler with my dremel to bring it up to the look of the '74 Z28. Top of air cleaner was foiled with BMF. Model was painted in Model Master "Daytona Yellow" which closely replicates the factory colour "Bright Yellow" code 51 which is a slightly pale yellow like Daytona Yellow. Didn't turn out too bad considering the front end of the AMT kit is slightly off. Have a look and see what you think and thanks for checking her out. Edited July 28, 2013 by RandyB.
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Cool build. I haven't seen one of these done before. Very nice.
smellyfatdude Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Awesomew job, Randy! The ' 74's were beautiful, with that tasteful tail light re-do and before the wrap around back window. They still looked like a muscle car, and yours certainly does!
JunkPile Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Nice model. '74-'77 Camaros have been showing up lately at our local car shows. Most seem to be low-mileage unrestored survivor cars
Jon Cole Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) When I was 16, I spent a lot of time with a relative riding around Cape Cod in his '74 Camaro (tho it was a base model) Your awesome build brings back lots of good memories. Edited August 4, 2013 by Jon Cole
fury3 Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 This is the kind of build many enjoy viewing. Something that never existed as a kit before. It looks authentic, as most of your creations do. I also appreciate how you have explained how you created this beautiful build (kits, parts, suppliers). Take a well deserved bow my friend! Fury3
Danno Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Very nice build, Randy! I had never noticed how far "off" the AMT front end was until you pointed it out. That one view of yours really shows it. Nice job of overcoming that shortfall.
slusher Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Beautiful build Randy. Great color choice. l wanted a 74 camaro like my friend had in 85 but was young and could not afford it...
berr13 Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Bravo! That's some excellent work! It's got a perfect in-scale look, and the color looks great on a Camaro. Congrats!
PappyD340 Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Very NICE touch on the old Z car Randy, I always wanted a 69 Z28, but never could manage it, Looks great!!
Scalper Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Really nice job making a 74 like the paint and decal combo.
RandyB. Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 Thanks guys. I got looking at the front chin spoiler and I am going to remove it since it does not look right. Edge of spoiler should line up with the front edge of the wheel well opening. I guess because this spoiler was meant to fit the '73 Camaro body style and comes up a bit short for the "shovel nose" '74's. I have seen pics of the '74 Z28 without the the chin spoiler.
