Monty Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 So far I haven't been all that impressed with any of the redline tires from the kit mfrs, so I'm curious what else is out there. I've heard there is a resin redline from Modelhaus, but IIRC, it's only available in one size. What else is available (vinyl or resin)? Pics and part numbers would be greatly appreciated.
Chief Joseph Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 FWIW, I have a 1/24 scale G78-14 redline that I patterned after the original spare from my 1969 GTO. It has photoetched tread detail, much like my earlier hand-built tires but in this case the tread pattern is much, much more detailed. It is not in production. I think it might be too tall in sidewall height for 1/25 scale, unless it were going on a big car. I have also been messing around with cut-vinyl redlines decals in accurately-scaled 3/8" width, but they are a booger to apply because they are so thin. They look perfect once they are on a tire, though.
Joker Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Darrell has some awesome decals. Link....http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=61694&hl=pinner#entry852058

Seems like the openings for the wheels as well as the wheels themselves were slightly larger than normal, even for 1/24. OTOH, a 1/24 G78-14 might work for my '67 Impala if I could find the right wheels to go with it. How is the red stripe done on it? If there was demand, what would it take to put it into production? I've been researching internet hypnosis methods so I can get you to concentrate on 1/25 scale stuff...you'll know when I've found one that works
Chief Joseph Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Didn't that GTO come with Uniroyal steel belted radials? LOL, the tire I used for my reference is an actual 1:1 Goodyear Power Cushion redline spare tire from 1969. The Monogram 1968 & 1969 GTO kits came with wheels that scaled out to about 15.5" in real life, so I made some proper 14" scale wheels and tires so that I could make models of the GTO's I have owned. I have all kinds of mods for that kit to turn it into a proper 1969 GTO. From left to right, the Monogram GTO wheel & tire (with a vinyl redline), my scratchbuilt G78-14 with "proper" 14" wheel, and my "proper" 15" wheel on a Monogram Radial GT tire (with my lettering decals): Here is the tread on that G78-14: The redline is machined into the sidewall so it can be painted.
KevinMoparFord Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 If you can find some old Satco ones they are nice, unfortunately out of business but you see them sometimes on evilbay. I used them on my 68 Charger. I also like the red lines that come in the pro modeler Daytona kit, lathough they look a little small. http://public.fotki.com/Kevin60brd/my-first-album/68-charger-side-b.html
GMP440 Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Stevens International has an outstanding set redline tires.

Those G78-14s are nice. Those were very common on the 1968-72 A-bodies for tire size; I'd suspect more than a few other cars would've used them, too. The modern size is P215-75®(B )(D)/14, the older size, I think was 7.50-14. If you mold those tires, Joseph, I'd be in for a set, particularly if you included Darrel's stickers for a choice or red or white-stripe. Charlie Larkin Edited August 8, 2013 by charlie8575
dimaxion Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Hello . The Red Line Wide Ovals were F-70 X14 . The most widely applied on Factory muscle Cars in the '60-'70's . The '70's Replacement Tires is the 78 Series . No matter what make . Now , what does a '68-'72 A Body supposed to mean to a Non-GM enthusiast ? The 78 Series replaced the 70 Series as not a fully Performance tire . The 78 gave some of this for ride . My '70 Javelin OEM tire size was E70 X 14 with 6 cyl . Mine had a V/8 and equipped with F70 X 14 . The '69 Charger I owned had 8.25 x 14 . F70 X 14 and G70 X 14 was next upgrade . The G70 X 15 was the tire on Hemi Equipped Cars . My '65 Mustang was shod with F70 X 14 . '64 GTO's and 442 Olds , F70 X 14 as the '65 Buick Skylark and Chevelle . The same for '65 - '69 MY . I could go on . I fixed and sold tires at a real Service Station during '65 - '66 - '67 . I did not miss a New Car Introduction until 1975 MY. I could go on .... Plaese make these F70 x 14 . I will buy and build my pile of muscle Cars . Thanx ..
Ron Hamilton Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 (edited) Replicas and Miniatures Co. of MD does a nice Goodyear Custom Power Cushion Polyglas tire from the original '70's AMT as well as the MPC kits, as well as the Firestone Wide Ovals that were used in some AMT and Lindberg kits. They are in Hard Black resin, with separate inserts for the stripes in white, and red. I used the MPC whitewalls on this build. I used the AMT Firestone Wide Ovals on this build. No G70 series was ever avail on any Hemi cars. 1966-1967 used a 7.75-14 ( blue stripe in 1966 - red stripe in 1967) 1968-1969 used F70-15 and was the only tire avail on Hemi cars these years ( avail in white or red stripe ) 1970 -1971 used F70-14 as standard with F60-15 as optional in 1970 -71 ) 1971 Hemi B-bodies had the G60-15 ( not 100% sure if it was the standard tire or the optional tire over the F70-14 )

My mistake . I am mistaken remembering the Tire Size - milage - Performance - Saftey Charts in the Owner's manual . The 60 Series weren't available until 1973 . I had to wait until Fall that year to buy them . I needed tires on my '70 Javelin SST in the Spring . I settled wioth OE - F-70 X 14's . Thank you all for tire sources . The Modelhaus I put on '68 & '69 Mustangs . Too fat as these are not F70 X 14's . Thanx ..
stavanzer Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Another Tire question. 1972 GTO. Redlines? Or No Redlines. If No Redlines, then Raised White Letter tires?

Redline tyres died-off after the 1969 model year , being largely replaced by raised white letter examples . 1972 GTO would likely have Uniroyal Tiger Paws .
stavanzer Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Thanks. I plan on using the RWL tires from the Round2 '69 Camaro kit, then.
