Chief Joseph Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I was in Hobby Lobby today and they had two of the large cans of Tamiya Gray Surface Primer in the model paint section. There were no prices on the cans, but they should be very affordable with a 40% coupon. If it were the Fine Surface Primer instead of the regular primer, I'd have two new cans of Tamiya primer sitting on my shelf.
Monty Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 That's good to know! I thought they only carried Testors model paints. Thanks!
cobraman Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 I wish they would carry the whole Tamiya line of paints
jeffs396 Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Good news Joseph, thanks! Now let's hope that ALL HLs carry it...
Eshaver Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Hobby Lobby to me is a good hour drive , one way . Good to know though in the event that I do venture to the land of one of the scariest parts of Richmond Virginia to try and drive .............
martinfan5 Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 From what I am reading on other model forums, a lot of Hobby Lobby stores are selling Tamiya Primers, I was just at one here in the valley two days ago, did not see any, but they were in the middle of doing the model kit reset.

martinfan5 Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 l know some carry Tamiya putty and masking tape. l also wish they would carry the spray paint line.. All the HL stores here started to carry the putty and tape about 6mths to a year ago I believe
southpier Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 yup; tape, putty, & primer. and a ton of kits - AMT, Revell. not the whole line, but if you need something to build, HL will have something!
PappyD340 Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Have seen the putty and tape but never seen any primer at my HL, but Joe is right they usually have a decent selection of kits and with a 40% coupon they are pretty reasonable!!
raildogg Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 There's only one close to me but I never see any coupons or advertising for the store. That sucks!
SFC_Allen Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 There's only one close to me but I never see any coupons or advertising for the store. That sucks! You can download the app and it had a coupon n it so you don't have to print it out or just visit the site and print it out. I would say 3 out of 4 weeks It's the40% off.

hooterville75 Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 The last Hobby Lobby I was in carried a small variety of Vallejo Model Color paints in the individual bottles. No sets unfortunately.
southpier Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 ha ha; we are a fickle lot, eh? the last HL I was in had sets, but no individuals! now, i'll just have to go to michael's & ac moore.
johnbuzzed Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Michaels down here has a not-too-large selection of Monogram, Revell and Maisto (sp?) kits that are way overpriced and they have a small selections of Testors paints. AC Moore has even less. Hobby Lobby has a better selections of Revell, Monogram, Round2(Ertl/AMT/MPC) and Tamiya kits. They have a good variety of Testors paints, airbrushes and supplies for them, masking stuff and masks and some materials for fabricating parts. Their prices are high, too, but whose aren't? I'd like to see them carry the Tamiya spray paints, then life would be almost complete .
hooterville75 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Michaels around my area here in Pennsylvania only carry the small 1/4 oz bottles of Testors in a decent variety of colors. They carry the Testors Acrylic and Enamel eight or nine bottle sets and ocasionally a set of Military colors but thats it paint wise. Maybe now and then a small selection of Testors Spray Lacquers. That's it paint wise though. Small selection of kits, Monogram, AMT and Revell, both cars and planes. AC Moore is hit and miss normally with the miss. I was OK with the selection Hobby Lobby had last visit. At least they carry some of the Vallejo paints. My area for Mom and Pop hobby stores is HORRIBLE. The one I have which is a 45 minute drive or so is aweful price wise. I couldn't even tell you where the closest acceptable mom and pop hobby store is to me. That's why I just stick to either www.scalehobbyist.com or www.redfroghobbies.com they seem to be the two cheapest online hobby stores I've found.
Austin T Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I stopped in today and looked for the primer and I got Ultra Fine white primer at mine! I snatched up a can as quick as I could to make sure I wasn't in a dream. I told the manager there that I was very glad they had Tamiya primer and that I would be thrilled if they started carrying more Tamiya paints.
martinfan5 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I am going to take a trip to one of the stores here to see the new reset, to see if I can find what they did with clearance kits, and to see if they have any Tamiya Primer
clovis Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 We never download any coupons. We often use our iPhones while in the store, and look up the coupons, and then show the cashiers the coupon on our screen.

slusher Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 All the HL stores here started to carry the putty and tape about 6mths to a year ago I believe Jonathan, l believe you but mine just started carring the putty. l don't understand unless its because mine is in a small city. I am going to take a trip to one of the stores here to see the new reset, to see if I can find what they did with clearance kits, and to see if they have any Tamiya Primer Sometimes they don't always clearance and send it back to be sold in other stores..

southpier Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 maybe they test it in a few areas to determine if it will sell - and then go full on stocking?
