MsDano85gt Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 here is my McLaren in progress! its pretty sweet! it is going to have a mpc chassis kitbashed in (more detailed) and it has the 99' cobra irs setup the engine will most likely be the mpc 2.3 turbo from the later model svo mustangs its a much more detailed turbo motor then the older revel one paint is as close as I could find it is a ford color the bottom half is as close as a match as I could get too the blue stripe looks good its tamaya clear blue ]
Jeremy Jon Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 The ASC cars were for promotions primarily of the 'then' new Fox Mustang, and only a few made, the fender bulges of the real cars is quite different to the scale kit body, only a concern if you're trying to more exactly replicate one Interestingly the original 1979 IMSA concept for that car was even more distinct in it's bodywork & graphics, and had side 3/4 windows much like a later model GT or LX - pic below
MsDano85gt Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 yes the flares are not accurate they share the same body as the "turbo cobra" mustang revel kit and the mercury capri kits not going for 100% accuracy hence the 99 cobra independent rear suspention
Jeremy Jon Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) Oh yes, why I say only a concern if you were trying to make a prefect reproduction, but then it would take a bit of work to do of course The IMSA version in photo I have thought about making a build of, but it has yet completely different flares and details of it's own from either the ASC or the Capri versions I like the kit "Capri" style flares, and yet has the wheel opening lips of the Mustang - where as the Capri are flat Looking forward to seeing this build to completion! MsDano85gt Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 Jeremy jon your right on supposedly capri "flares" are not perfect on the kits either but I let em' ride I just posted a new one to follow as well........... theres a 82? concept convertible revel did pre 83 when ford unveiled the convertible again after a 10 yr. absence I am going to use that as a basis to build a 84 gt 350 anivarsary convertible to go with the hardtop check it out will be fun!
MsDano85gt Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 I finally found some other reference pictures online other than a sideshot of the car! found a open hatch pic i need to build me a safety bar/ rollcage...... i just don't know how the sides look maybe its a behind the seats one like older dragstrip muscle cars?
Abell82 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 You do know, that with a few mods, the ENTIRE 99 Cobra chassis can be used, right? Give it a try!
MsDano85gt Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 awesome work Jason! do you have a scematic of the design of that roll cage? can I use it? lol dunno if I need to ask permission to do so?? just the courteous thing to do I though! I will have to try I've got some extra 99' stuff minus the chassis plate but I do have 2 others complete I could part out! I added the irs rear end to the mpc chassis it fits in perfect with no modding and that chassis plate pretty much fits right in the revel body...... theres a few pics of a dark blue mustang that has the "McLaren" looking front end and hood floating about in many mustang books parked with a red 82' gt usually that what your build reminds me of! awesome dude inspiration for me to get mine finished
MsDano85gt Posted November 14, 2014 Author Posted November 14, 2014 You do know, that with a few mods, the ENTIRE 99 Cobra chassis can be used, right? Give it a try! will have to try this on my 2nd or third mc laren build!
