Devilsnake98 Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 (edited) Yes another 90 lx mustang build. I wanna just build what I would want to be a nice powerful street car. Nothing over the top, not a crazy outlaw drag car [those are sweet though]. So I got a resin cowl hood from lex's scale modeling, used the 18" 5 spoke wheels from the 08 bullitt kit, and the 4.6 dohc cobra motor from the phantom vicky kit. The wheels and disc brakes will go onto this kit with ease. Only mods I have to do here is add a lip to the rear wheels to get the staggered look and for the wider rear tires. Only minor clearancing of the trans tunnel was required to clear the bigger bellhousing of the 4.6. Lucky I got the cowl hood cause the top of the intake plenum is almost touching. Wonderbread Kustomz Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Oh man I love it!!! As soon as I get unpacked, I am gonna get back on my Stang...
freakshow12 Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 With a little messing around that engine will snuggle down in and clear the stock hood. I does on the 1:1s I have played with
Ford guy Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Sounds like a fun project, can't wait to see more!!!
Devilsnake98 Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 (edited) Thanks all, if I lower the motor down any further, it puts the cyl heads to close to the frame rails and headers will not fit. Gonna be close enough custom building long tube headers as is. Edited September 12, 2013 by Devilsnake98
freakshow12 Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Must beca scale thing as the 1:1 fits no problem lol
Devilsnake98 Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 Maybe freakshow, I looked at buying a 91 coupe that had this swap and it had the stock hood and equal length shorty headers.
Devilsnake98 Posted September 14, 2013 Author Posted September 14, 2013 got a little more done, got the tires/ wheels mocked up and the suspension lowered to where I like it. had to slightly narrow the rear axle to accommodate the wide rear tires and the disc brakes. used the brembo front brakes and rear brakes from the 07 gt500 kit. also got the wheels and tires painted, and made a lip for the rear wheels and painted with duplicolor chrome to simulate polished aluminum. here is a pic I found that im gonna build this car around. so far not to bad in my eyes.
Abell82 Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Love , the overall look of the project so far, and I can't wait to see more. .
slusher Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Sweet project. love the wheels and hood..
66belair Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Looking good alright, what lug did you source your wheels from? Looks like you have the look nailed!
Devilsnake98 Posted September 14, 2013 Author Posted September 14, 2013 Wheels are from the revell 08 mustang bullitt kit, the rears have a lip added for depth.
Devilsnake98 Posted August 30, 2014 Author Posted August 30, 2014 Wanted a break from all the scratchbuilding for a bit, so I got my 90 lx back out and started some painting. I'm not going crazy on this one. Got the chassis painted in primer gray with the body color overspray treatment. Painted the rear inner fenders, gas tank, and installed the subframe connectors. Also have some random pieces painted, these are just some of the bigger ones that are ready for assembly. And have some paint on the motor, did the block, heads and trans in straight silver, dullcoated the trans, painted the valve covers, timing cover, and the upper intake plenum gloss black, also did the bolt head detail with silver paint on a toothpick. Also painted the engine bay with Duplicolor Ford Oxford white. This will be the color of the body just like the pic of the real car above.
slusher Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Nice progress, I like how you painted the chassis...
Devilsnake98 Posted September 26, 2014 Author Posted September 26, 2014 A little update on my mod motor lx, got the motor installed into the chassis with the headers on. Currently working on the radiator hose setup. I have the front suspension all painted, detailed and installed. Also have the rear end painted and assembled, stole the aftermarket diff cover from the drag racer kit, its just sitting in place now because I have to build the exhaust next. Also have the body ready for paint, all mold lines, imperfections smoothed out, in Tamiya white primer now waiting for a nice day to paint the Oxford white basecoat and possibly clear coat.
66belair Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Looking good. How much clearance do you have with the body with that engine set up?
Devilsnake98 Posted September 26, 2014 Author Posted September 26, 2014 Umm next to none haha. I had to grind the hood thin above the intake plenum. I should have modified the oil pan so the engine would sit lower, but oh well it works with the cowl hood.
