peekay Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 (edited) This is my latest completion. Paint is Zero base with Tamiya clear and I was aiming at Ice Blue but I didn't get quite cold enough. The tyres are Modelhaus (I can't remember the last time I used kit tyres!) and the antenna is a surgical needle with a piece of guitar string inserted and a tiny globule of clear epoxy on top. The distributor is from Morgan Automotive Detail and one of the nicest aftermarket products out there IMO.The interiors on this era of Johan kits were just a tub, a dash and a steering wheel so a bit of a challenge to detail - I've kept it simple.Oh yes, and the wheels are not stock - a free ice cream if you can identify them. The originals need rechroming but I'll probably never get round to it.  Hosted on Fotki  Hosted on Fotki  Hosted on Fotki  Hosted on Fotki  Hosted on Fotki  Edited August 9, 2017 by peekay Quote
Harry P. Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Wow! Where are you pulling all of these fantastic models out of? Another beauty. This is simply spectacular. Now this is what model building is all about. This model is so crisp and clean I hate to even mention this, but maybe some clear epoxy flowed onto the headlights? Or a bit of translucent white pearl brushed on them? Something to take away that "chrome plated headlight lenses" look. Or not. In any case it's a beautiful model, very well executed. You have some skills! Quote
Harry P. Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 And one more thing... that bit of trim on the rear fenders... those "louvers" or whatever you want to call them... they are so absolutely sharp and crisp. How did you do that? Are they separate chrome pieces? Quote
peekay Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 Thanks so much Harry, I really appreciate your comments.Yes, chrome headlight lenses are a problem and I've tried all the remedies over the years - never saw any real improvement. The latest thing I tried was Testors' Clear Parts Glue after a tip on this forum but it didn't work for me.The only thing to do would be to drill them out and replace them - but I can't be bothered! Erik Smith Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Great model. Extra clean construction and sharp foil work. I really like the sheen on the paint job. Quote
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Wow indeed. Best one of those I've ever seen. Simply beautiful. Quote
peekay Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 Oh... are those Toronado hubcaps?Brilliant Harry, your ice cream is on the way!The trim pieces you're referring to were done with BMF. First the vertical bits individually and then a thin strip layed horizontally over them. And thanks Bill, that's very kind of you. Quote
peekay Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 (edited) And thanks Erik, much appreciated! Edited September 12, 2013 by peekay Quote
philo426 Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Exceptional job!Very realistic!Back in the day a neighbor had a black 4 door '62 Dart that we all bombed around in.It had a manual so when the battery died we just pushed it down the street to get it started. Quote

First the vertical bits individually and then a thin strip layed horizontally over them. Well, let me say that I am very impressed. I've been foiling models for many years, and to get that kind of crisp, sharp, clean job on such an intricate part is not easy. You have a new fan. Quote
MyBradKeselowski Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Spectacular ! ! ! Beautiful ! ! ! Quote
cobraman Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Beautiful ! I love it. You do have some mad skills my friend. Quote
PappyD340 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Simply GORGEOUS Peter, you have skills indeed!! Quote
Sixties Sam Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Very nice Dart! Very clean build and great foil work! One question - shouldn't those upper taillights be clear backup lights? Sam Quote
Foxer Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 That looks better than the 1:1's did on the showroom floor! Quote
Dragline Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 This is VERY impressive sir. Harry's gushing aside he is certainly on point. The foil work [which I take great pride in] is positively Stellar! Paint is perfect and this is the best example I have ever seen of this kit, and I've seen a few. Bob Quote
rmvw guy Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 To get that much reaction out of Harry, you are the "Man of the Day" in my opinion, congratulations! You are also my new hero on the bare metal foil job. The engine bay is beautiful. This is a neat old car! Quote
TFchronos Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Beautiful work on this, it's stunning! Quote
High octane Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 That Dodge is a beautiful build and I just love dem Mopars. Quote
charlie8575 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Gorgeous. Great colors, very nice work on this. The blue/blue and those nice Modelhaus whitewalls. Very well done. Charlie Larkin Quote
Danno Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Spectacular model! But, as Steve said, the white trim ring around the outer headlamps is glaringly missing. And, as Sam pointed out, the top lamps on the rear fenders of a 440 should be backup lamps. The only '62 Dodges with four taillights were the Polara 500s. Note the significant differences in trim appointments on these Polara 500 examples. Here's the Dart 440, like your model: Oh, yeah. Those white accent rings on the outer headlamp bezels? All Darts and Polaras had them, regardless of body color. Here's as good a pic as I could find quickly: Quote
peekay Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 Thanks so much everyone. Having never shown a model to anyone who understands, I'm somewhat overwhelmed at the response. The white around the Headlights is something I really never noticed before. And I thought I was being smart using 4 red tail lights - I had a parts kit so I drilled out the molded in upper lights and replaced them with the second red set. I've noticed since that this was wrong but I'm quite happy the way it is.Although I'm basically a rep-stock modeller, I'm not THAT fussy about accuracy. Quote
